"I called in about a mold issue and was pretty concerned. John Was very professional and instead of taking advantage of me and recommending lots of expensive services he took time to talk to me, Find out the problem, and explain what I should do that would yield the best outcome. I always am DIY so he explained the steps that I can do myself to remediate the issue and then told me where I should do testing at the right stage to avoid extra costs etc. I will use Clean Air Solution to do my testing when the time comes and I WILL CERTAINLY RECOMMEND THEM to anyone who has a similar predicament."

"I highly recommend 911 Restoration of Southern Utah! They did an amazing job repairing water damage and mold removal. A slow leaking water heater led to water everywhere in our small utility room, paint peeling off the wet drywall, and mold everywhere. Thank goodness for 911 Restoration! I was so impressed with how quickly Brad and Dustin arrived to assess the situation. Brad completed the repairs efficiently and thoroughly, with quality work. Brad was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. He took great care to make sure that the paint matched and that I was happy with everything. He kept the work area neat and tidy and finished faster than I expected. We didn't even end up using our insurance because the cost was less than our deductible. Now our utility closet looks brand new!"

Biohazard Remediation questions, answered by experts

Several household cleaning products will permanently kill mold, most notably vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. Bleach can also kill mold, but usually just on the surface. Any mold lingering underneath will survive.

For moldy areas larger than 10 square feet, you'll want to hire a professional mold remediation company to determine the best way to permanently remove the mold. A local mold inspector can help you determine the extent of a mold problem, and what steps you need to take to eradicate it.

If you're wondering about black stains on brick at your home, the answer is that you're not looking at efflorescence. While efflorescence can be darker when certain types of salt are involved, black staining is caused by carbon staining, pollution from vehicles, and chimney soot. Black stains can also be caused by organic materials like lichen, algae, or mold.

Exterior paint contains a higher level of VOCs, which can be dangerous if you’re exposed to it for a long period of time. The good news is that paint’s toxicity reduces significantly once fully dried and cured. Do not keep open exterior paint cans in your home, basement, or garage, exposing your household to harmful chemicals over time.

In some cases, yes, it’s safe to spray hydrogen peroxide on your mattress, but the solution can damage memory foam mattresses, so you should only use it on non-memory foam mattresses. If you have a standard spring mattress, you can mix hydrogen peroxide with cold water in a 1:1 ratio and spray that on your urine-soaked mattress. If you’re cleaning pee out of a memory foam mattress, swap out the hydrogen peroxide for white distilled vinegar, or call in a professional mattress cleaner to avoid doing damage to your mattress.

To kill white mold on wood, a mixture of white vinegar and water (a 1:1 ratio) or a water and hydrogen peroxide combo can be effective. Spray the affected area and let it sit for a few hours before scrubbing the mold off. Borax mixed with water is another option; it not only kills the mold but also prevents future growth. Ensure the wood is completely dry after cleaning, and consider applying a wood sealer or paint to prevent moisture absorption, which discourages mold growth. Regular inspections and maintaining proper ventilation can also help prevent mold recurrence on wood surfaces.
