We are a small company, consisting of two employees. Once a price is determined, Rock Creek Welding will require half the price up front for materials and the rest of the price upon completion. No financing is available and cash or check is accepted at this time.

"Two part job. Part one was done on time and very much worth price. Part two was planned to be weeks later. Responsiveness was terrible, promise to complete work was not fulfilled, and in the end I had someone else finish the job. Lesson learned is that this is a small business with good intentions but cannot follow through on verbal commitments. Therefore my rating was a mix of good for part one of the job but bad for part two. The work completed was good but the overall job (part 1 and 2) was a bad experience."

Wrought Iron questions, answered by experts

You’ll need to bury the garden fence about 1 foot underground. It’s tempting to save on materials by burying the fence just a couple of inches, but if you do so, determined pests will still be able to dig under the fence and access your plants. Burying your garden fence deep into the soil is an important step that allows you to attach a wire barrier to the fencing.

Burrowing animals (like voles, moles, rabbits, and gophers) can’t dig or chew through this wiring, meaning that you’ll be keeping your prized petunias or your robust veggie garden from being eaten.

Wood, vinyl, chain link, and aluminum are common materials. Choose based on durability, maintenance needs, and aesthetics.

Pictures of the area where you want your handrail installed should help get an accurate estimate. You should also let your professional know how accessible the installation location is, and whether or not there is a pre-existing railing to remove. Also, before contacting the pro, take some time to decide what type of wrought iron you are leaning toward.

Finally, have the overall length of your railing at the ready, so you can discuss prefabricated options versus custom-made options.

Galvanized metal, vinyl, and composite fences are known to last the longest out of all types of fences. These fence types will last well over 30 years with proper care. Galvanized metal doesn’t attract pests and has a special coating to better withstand weather. Vinyl and composite materials are pest-resistent and will withstand harsh weather for many years.

Metal fencing is one of the most expensive options and is certainly more expensive than vinyl and oftentimes, wood. Specialized electric fences and, in certain cases, concrete can be more expensive than metal, but wrought iron is one of the most expensive fencing options, which is why you see it most often on expensive estates and in affluent zip codes.
