I have serious issues with this service. I want to put a review on Angie's List about how unprofessional their manager, Charles, is. I had issues with scheduling and finishing. There were disputes about very bad labor on a certain part of the fence, mostly the gate. It took them months to fix the gate.
"This project was completed in May 2014 that was 9 months ago every time she call us about any smallest of issue like the wood gate we always responded and correct the issue we even rebuilt here a new gate in June 2014 not sure why she wrote about this please remove this untrue review you may contact me at 254-368-7096 thanks"
Unexpectedly I had to leave town the day they were coming and was unable to be here for the instal. But they were able to install without me here. Charles kept me updated through out the day on how far the project was.(He sent pictures of the fence once it was complete).
If any damage to your sprinkler system happens when installing, they will take full responsibility. This is something the other companies were not offering me. They cleaned up after themselves and left no part of the old fence behind. They set up the appointment for the city to come mark the yard for gas pipes, cables, etc.
This company was the higher end of the estimates I had got. I decided to go with Oak Tree because of there customer service, reviews, videos, and just looking at the work they have done around the area.
**UPDATE**
There were some issues with a few of the planks. (As well as finding out that the metal poles were just stuck in the ground with no concrete. I was assured by Charles this was normal). Charles came out and marked which ones were to be replaced. A couple days went by and no word from the company, as to when someone would be coming through to replace the planks.
I ending up calling to find out what the time frame would be so that someone would be home and the gate would be unlocked. Charles informed me it normally takes a few days before someone would be out to replace them, from the time he marked them. (Which was fine if a date and time could be set up, I am OK with setting up a appointment). I was told someone would call me with a time frame.
With in about a couple of hours, I had a man knocking at my door from the company. No call, no text, no email, no warning they were going to be coming to replace the planks. We keep our gate locked at all times. What if I had not been home? Would it than be my fault because the gate was locked with no access to the fence? Would I end up having to wait a few more days?
After the man left I went out and looked at the replaced boards. Some were missing nails and another had a huge split in it. If I called I am sure they would come and replace them and put in the nails that are missing. But its no big deal for me to add a nail here and there.
$1100 for labor and screws/nails. I paid approx $400 for pickets, rails, cement (Charles kindly picked up for me) instead of using cedar pickets which is what Oak Tree uses and recommends.
Oak Tree was the only one who came (promptly) when I called and left a message I was looking for bids. I called five businesses all from Angie's List. One other company wanted $1900. Charles is very friendly and knowledgeable. He was also very willing to work with me on using treated pine instead of red cedar, which I could not afford. I bought treated pine pickets (250!) and rails and he used my 8', 4x4 posts I had been saving (16 of them).
What prevents me from giving an 'A' rating is Charles changed the verbal terms of our contract the day of the install. Twice I had verbally confirmed I wanted very specific construction on screws from the rails into the posts for additional security. Although I acknowledge this is his business and he has installed many fences, I knew what I wanted. Day of, his crew was using nails to attach the rails to the posts. I stopped them immediately and the lead crew member stated he was unaware of instructions to use nails to attach the rails to the posts. Screws were fine for attaching pickets to the rails. I immediately called Charles to remind him of what we had twice discussed and long story short... I really had no choice but to go with what had already been done with nails attaching rails to posts. The crew was 2/3 done and to remove the rails and hammer out the nails would very possibly have ruined the wood with splits, etc. I felt I did not have a lot of choice at that point and when I called Charles he assured me that everything would be fine. I was a little upset because we had agreed and not much I could do. However, I was also concerned because I knew for a fact he was confusing my address with another house right down the road they were also working.
Day one, his crew was prompt, got down to business, friendly, answered my questions, and cleaned up pretty well when all was done. I provided cold drinks and some snacks both days. However, my experience on day two was I had to watch their work and correct them to remove three warped rails. I have to say I was REALLLY surprised they thought putting up warped rails was acceptable when there were rails available in my lumber supply that were perfectly straight. Unfortunately, I did NOT take a picture of this work to show what I am talking about. The crew lead was more than happy to make the swap, but if I had not said anything they would have installed pickets on a warped rail right at the start. ***So I would just caution that you might need to be on hand to inspect the work from time to time as it goes up.*** That is my own experience. His lead crew guy was receptive to my comments and what I wanted as long as I was firm. He was patient in explaining what he was doing when I questioned the work.
Two day job. His crew removed my old 116' foot fence the first day and put the fence parts where I asked them too for ease of my recycling. There was no additional charge for them tearing down my fence. I recycled a lot of it and sold some old cedar pickets on craigslist and gave some away as well. Day two they installed the new fence.
I asked Charles to send me a copy of their warranty/guarantee just to be sure I did and he promptly replied (all by email) after the job was finished.
So yes, ***overall I would recommend Oak Tree***, but just caution customers that you thoroughly understand the process and what is involved. Charles is a good salesman suffice it to say. Overall I am satisfied with the job, but it was a little more stressful than I had anticipated. This may be because I have previously installed fence and know a little about what is involved and what I like.
done in puttiing up our fence and gate was professional and timely. They arrived in time and finished the same day as promised.
The wood and posts used for the fence are excellent quality. I love the cap on the fence, my neighbors have come by to
compliment on it and to see who it was done by. We will definitly be using them again for future work. Great Job!
