"Rachelle and her husband and crew were fantastic, hardworking, and got through the project at a great pace. I had to have my backyard redone, literally, from the ground up. Rachelle seems to know where to get the best resources like the richest compost, mulch, and the freshest cut sod. In fact, the sod was cut the evening before it was laid and it was here from South Texas and delivered to our house about 7:00am. It was the richest green sod that I have seen. She and her husband have their own tree farm and they planted some great trees in back. We found R & R Landscaping awesome and we are extremely pleased with the final result and would highly recommend them! We will definitely use them again!!!"

"Juan and his helper did a beautiful job installing a limestone wall for my front yard flower bed. They also put dirt in and even drilled holes for drainage, which I'd never thought of. They were on time, prompt, and Juan always communicated what was being done, what should be done, and kept me updated on the timeline of the project. These gentlemen were outstanding. I would definitely use JCD and DF Services again!"

"Blake Reed is an expert in the use, care, and repair of sprinkler systems. He came out promptly, assessed the problem and initiated repairs at the same visit. Prices are well within the amounts expected for the needed repairs. He also teaches while working to help prevent further damages or needed repair. He is pleasant, well spoken and respectful. If you choose Field of Reeds to work for you, you will be impressed as was I. Shout out to ANGI for finding Field of Reeds for me!"

"They had to keep pushing my work back due to the weather. I was worked in sooner than expected and the work was better than I expected because of all the rain. I m going to hire them again for the next phase of the landscaping."

"My wife and I were having issues with our dogs getting into the mud in our back and side yard so we hired Adelante and we were really impressed with their work! The price was very reasonable compared to their competitors and their work was outstanding! 10 out of 10 would recommend and we will use them again in the future."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Unless it only rains once in a blue moon where you live, you’re going to want water-loving plants in your garden bed or pot. A few ideas for plants that aren’t super fast-growing (meaning they’re good in pots or near foundations) and can handle a lot of standing water include:

  • Acorus (Sweet flag)

  • Colocasia esculenta (Taro or elephant ear): In many climates, these are annuals, making them less desirable because you need to adjust the chain again after each replant.

  • Equisetum scirpoides (Dwarf horsetail rush): non-dwarf varieties of horsetail are fast growers and can take over quickly.

  • Juncus effusus (Curly rush)

  • Osmunda regalis (Royal fern): Royal fern can grow quickly but can also handle being crowded, making them good container plants.

Most experts recommend a quarter-inch layer of compost for best results, and you will need about .77 cubic yards of material per 1,000 square feet. To measure how much compost to use, take the square footage of your yard and multiply it by .77, then divide that number by 1,000.

Since you’ll likely be digging a trench to install your yard drainage system, this is a good time to complete other tasks that involve digging up your yard, including: Sprinkler system installation Lawn reseeding Regrading your yard Redesigning your landscaping If your drain is under a walkway or driveway, your contractor must also remove those materials. This is a great time to consider upgrading your hardscaping features, especially if they’re nearing the end of their life span.

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

Environmental considerations include native plant selection, wildlife habitation, erosion prevention measures, and managing water runoff patterns to protect the lakefront ecosystem.
