"We used Angi.com to find an electrician to install an EV charger we bought for our new EV. Sear Electric responded quickly, came out to complete a visual review of what was needed and they produced a very reasonable quote for the installation of the charger in our garage. The employees were very communicative, friendly and professional, and the overall quality of work was excellent. The guys who did the installation were also very patient as I made sure I got the app connected and verified the charger would indeed charge the car. We are pleased with the work Sear Electric did and would hire them again if we have any other electrical issues or projects."

"Jake and Blake came out to install our EV charger and when I asked how long the job could take, Jake said about 3-4 hours on average but wouldn’t you know, Jake and Blake were finished in about 2.5 hours. During the install, Jake pointed out something in our circuit breaker box that didn’t necessarily need attention but he took care of the potential issue for us, which we appreciated because he explained it could potentially be a safety concern. Overall the job was clean and there were no holes or conduit that needed to be done as other companies and contractors I contacted said that there could be a decent size hole that needed to be patched and painted or that conduit may need to be installed. Jake assured me that the hole he would make would be about an inch wide and no conduit would be needed. 10 out of 10 would recommend Mister Sparky and if you can, ask for Jake and Blake. Also, shoutout to Rita for being so communicative when setting up the initial inspection and the appointment."

"Communication is great. They answer all your questions. Tech is out when they say they will be there. Very friendly people and very fair. No issues what so ever. We added a 220v outlet in the garage for our new EV car and only took about an hour."

"We had A1 upgrade our electric connection from 200 to 400amps. Installing new electric meter, working directly with centerpoint, and installing additional 200 amp generator box. Justin was very clear on the details If the install. Made sure installation was aesthetically pleasing. Checked on his team regularly. Followed up with minor corrections afterwards. Continuously communicated on status, etc. Definitely top notch service."

Ev Charger Installer FAQs, answered by experts

Upgrading your electrical system can save you money on your monthly utility bills by powering your home more efficiently. Electrification nonprofit Rewiring America estimates that a household could save $1,800 per year on energy bills by upgrading to a modern electric heat pump, switching to a heat pump for their water, installing solar panels on the roof, and converting to an electric vehicle.

Having a Level 2 charger can increase your home value, especially as electric vehicles become more popular. Homebuyers who have EVs or are interested in getting one will appreciate the convenience of a ready-to-use charging station. The added value can vary based on location and buyer preferences.

Yes, electricians must be licensed, certified, and in most cases, insured. Licensing requirements vary by state and local municipality, but most U.S. municipalities require electricians to hold an electrical contractor’s license. It's always a good practice to confirm requirements with your local municipality. Even if licensing is not required in your area, hiring a licensed and experienced electrician often leads to a better end result.

A license is a legal requirement to operate a business and is necessary for pulling project permits. Certifications, on the other hand, are typically voluntary and demonstrate a certain level of expertise. In some cases, a certified electrician may send an apprentice or journeyman to perform the work, but they must operate under a primary electrician who holds the proper license.

Before hiring, you should verify the electrician's license, insurance coverage, and any third-party certifications. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing search to confirm a pro's license status. Additionally, businesses with the “Angi Approved” badge on our platform meet strict criteria, including having the required state and local licenses, passing a background check, and maintaining a high average rating.

You can plug your electric car into a regular 120-volt household outlet only if you’re using a Level 1 charger. This method is slower and may take several days to fully charge your EV. For faster charging, you’ll need a Level 2 charger, which requires a 220- or 240-volt outlet.

Setting up utilities on a vacant property usually takes at least a few months, or between 6 weeks to 16 weeks. This process requires working with the local planning and zoning department, hiring a building contractor or engineer to design the utility layout, securing permits, laying the lines, and connecting the utilities.
