"I hired CustomScapes to sod a good portion of our St. Augustine in the front yard and to install a sloping creek bed of rock to help with a drainage issue. Juan runs his business very professionally, He and his crew did an awesome job from beginning to end in one day. I now have a beautiful yard! I definitely recommend them to anyone needing landscaping projects."

Customers say: Quick response

"Plant it Nature is one of the few companies around that really focus on the customer experience and satisfaction. Ricky was extremely thorough on his consultation with us, gaining the understanding of our vision and needs. He shared his expertise on trees and applicable plants and in fact, we revised our plant choices based on his knowledge of the soil base and zone information. The results were so much more beautiful than we could have imagined. This company is trustworthy. The project was completed on time and on budget. Simply a great value for the project. We will definitely be working with Plant it Nature again soon."

"Jesus landscaping did an amazing job to refresh our xeriscape backyard. They brought in 4 yards of Colorado rock, integrated it with what was currently there and reset the bed so there were no more weeds. Excellent work, well done and timely. I would absolutely hire again and highly recommend them."

"Fast response and decent price. Falling branches came down and broke some ceramic lanterns in the yard, but they cleaned up and compensated for the damage."

"We used Moises and team for a huge backyard patio and drainage. They also filled in top soil to level the yard afterwards. Our backyard patio is gorgeous! The only problem is that our yard now looks nicer than our house! The team was great and Carlos was very knowledgeable and helpful. They are hard workers and fast. Moises himself checked in many times. After we found that we needed additional drainage, so Carlos was out the next day fixing the issue. I would highly recommend Moises and team! They stand behind their work and do a great job!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The average cost for landscaping is around $3,500, but prices can range from as low as $200 for simple DIY projects to $14,000 or more for extensive work. Several factors influence the final price, including your geographic location, yard size, project scope, chosen materials, site preparation, and the type of landscaping involved. Professional landscaper labor costs typically range from $50 to $100 per hour.

For a smaller budget, you can focus on softscaping projects like adding mulch, flowers, and shrubs, which might only cost a few hundred dollars if you do the work yourself. A budget of around $5,000 could cover projects like a simple patio, new plants and tree trimming, or a water feature. More extensive hardscaping projects, such as pergolas, patios, and walkways, can push the budget to $14,000 or more. For example, a flower bed installation averages between $800 and $3,000, while landscape lighting installation can cost from $2,000 to $6,000.

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

Yes, such as sod installation and erosion control for comprehensive site improvement.

While you can leave roots in the ground, if you don’t want the shrub to regrow again over time, it’s best not to leave any roots behind. Ensure you remove as much of the shrub as possible, including the root ball and any main roots you can see, to prevent new growth. Some gardeners opt for using a chemical treatment to prevent the stump from growing back, but this can kill beneficial microorganisms living in your soil.

The best size rock for your landscaping depends on the design, as different boulders serve different purposes. If you want to group boulders to create a natural-looking cluster, you’ll need a range of sizes. Otherwise, here are some suggestions:

  • Small boulders (smaller than 12 inches across): Best for landscape edging and fire pits

  • Medium boulders (12–24 inches): Best for retaining walls and water features

  • Large boulders (more than 24 inches): Best as standalone landscaping features, steps, or walkways.

Of course, you can mix and match sizes to create a unique display.
