"I had solar panels installed by SunPower's subcontractor Hooked on Solar in 2020. In 2023 some of the panels were damaged by an electrical outage and surge. It took about 4 months for Hooked on Solar to identify the damaged panels, schedule an appointment to replacement, but finally they fixed the panels."

"I had the pleasure of using this company recently to have solar panels installed on our roof and detached garage. The sales and administration staff were very responsive and able to answer any questions we had about installing solar and everything that comes after. When the crews came out for the actual install they were very polite and expedient. The end result looks fantastic and they put you with a liaison for any further questions you may have regarding the solar system. I would highly recommend anyone looking into installing solar to use this company."

"Rep. checked entire system. He found several wires not connected properly and fixed this. He also made recommendations regarding the attachment of the panels to the rood that would provide more stability and leakproofing. The representative appeared to know what he was doing - much better than others, including the representative who was engaged by the roofer (who replaced our rood due to hail damage) to disconnect/connect the panels."

"Peter worked very hard. Would have given 5's but for the fact that he came prepared for electrical work, but not for the trenching part of the job. That difficulty cost me money because he was on an hourly rate."

"We were very pleased with SolarWerx from start to finish. From the initial consult with Sean V to the completion of the solar panel installation, we felt very well informed and appreciated the process being consistent with our expectations. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience with our decision to use SolarWerx. We would hands down use them again in the future and recommended them to any friends/family."

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install solar panels is around $27,000, with most homeowners paying between $4,500 and $54,000. These prices don’t consider the federal investment tax credit (ITC), which can reduce costs by up to 30%. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of the system needed to offset your energy consumption, the amount of sunlight your home receives, your geographical location, the type and brand of panels, labor costs, and any add-on products like solar batteries or electric vehicle (EV) chargers. It is recommended to get price quotes from at least three solar companies in your area to find the best deal.

There are a few great questions to ask a solar contractor or inspector when you speak to them. You’ll probably want to find out about the energy yield and efficiency of your array, ensuring the actual output matches the amount you calculated when installing the array in the first place. It’s also a good idea to find out about any damage or wear and tear on the array and to inquire about how soon you need to make repairs or replacements to essential components.

Yes, you can connect an inverter directly to your solar panels without solar battery storage if your home is connected to the power grid. However, most pros don’t recommend a direct connection because solar panels don’t put out steady voltage. It’s always best to install a charge controller between your solar panel and your inverter to regulate the flow of energy and ensure a stable power supply.

Not all homes are suited for solar panel systems. Older roofs or those in poor condition may need repairs or replacement before solar panels can be installed. Some other factors to consider are the amount of sunlight your roof receives, the roof’s orientation and pitch, and any shading from nearby trees or buildings.

Yes, solar panel installation will require permits. The required permits will depend on where you live, as some states and cities have solar-specific permits, while others only require electrical permits to connect to the grid. In either case, it’s best to hire a reputable solar installer in your area, as a representative should handle all of the necessary permitting for you and will include the cost of the permits in your initial solar estimate.
