"My roof was ruined 4 years ago from a hail storm and was way past needing replaced, Jeremy removed the old shingles and put new ones on by himself in 3 days, he cleaned up the mess and gave me a great price since I had no insurance and I am disabled and on a fixed income. He is a hard worker, finishes the job quickly and pays attention to detail, I was extremely happy with his work."

"I worked directly with Jasmine. Jasmine was great to work with, very professional and relatable. She was understanding about the sudden changes in color and material I had during multiple consultations. She offered me a vast knowledge of materials and details about the work I hadn’t thought of or didn’t know about. If I have another project in the future I won’t hesitate to reach out to Sentri Homes."

"The only hiccup we had was a delay in the delivery and install of the shelter.  Unfortunately this is not under the control of Texas Tornado as the shelters are built by Bennett Steel in Tulsa, OK.  So, being a certified partner installer for Jim Giles safe room, turnaround estimates are subject to many variables at the manufacturer.  Now, when a batch of shelters was finally ready, Texas Tornado drove to Tulsa from Arlington on a Monday, picked up 3 shelters, and by Wed. they were down in Austin installing my brand new 4x6 in my garage.  I genuinely felt like I was a priority.  Install was professionally and carefully done.  Ferroscanning was performed to mark non-drillable areas of the slab.  The crew eased the shelter into the garage, causing no damage and positioning it exactly where I wanted it.  I was constantly told "We want to make sure you're satisfied" by all three of the crew.  They carefully made sure every part of the install was done correctly, not rushing it.  All of the particulars with the special deadbolts were explained and paperwork was handed over.  Balance payment was a snap.  They cleaned the whole shelter and checked all functionality before leaving.

"Clint activated our system in dripping springs. He did a great job and did not try to upsell a bunch of stuff that we didn’t need. He was professional and very knowledgeable. We used smith Thompson in Harris county for many years and never had a complaint about their staff or service they provided."

Storm Shelters questions, answered by experts

Prefabricated storm shelters can be assembled in four to eight hours. On the other hand, the time it takes to install a custom shelter can vary by days or weeks, depending on the builder's timeline and material availability. Bigger, more complicated, and customized shelters will take longer to complete than standard and prefab shelters.

The term “cottage” is subjective, so there’s no rigid definition, but it generally refers to a small home with simple and purposeful architecture that embraces nature and focuses on charm over everything else. Cottages are typically 1 or 1 1/2-stories tall, usually with gabled roofs, and are built out of natural materials that help make the structure a part of the surrounding nature rather than something that stands out from it. A big part of what makes a cottage a cottage is the decor, which includes natural materials from the nearby area.

Below-ground shelters are the best in terms of durability, but there is a risk of flooding and obstruction. Modern technology and rigorous construction requirements make above-ground shelters a better option for accessibility, safety, and, usually, your budget. They may not have the same aesthetic appeal, but many of their features make above-ground shelters a better option.

Yes, you can finance new construction, though the process often requires a different type of loan than one for an existing property. There are several financing options available:

  • Construction-to-Permanent Loan: This is a common option where a single loan covers the building costs and then converts into a traditional mortgage once construction is complete and you move in.

  • Construction Loan (Stand-Alone): This type of loan provides funding only for the duration of the construction project. Once the house is built, you will need to pay the loan in full, typically by securing a separate, standard mortgage.

  • Builder Financing: Some custom homebuilders offer their own financing options, which may only require a down payment to begin the building process.

  • Bridge Loan: This can be a useful short-term loan to fund your new construction while you are in the process of selling your old home.

  • Home Equity Options: If you are building a second home, you might be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance on your current property.

It's also important to be aware that some lenders may have restrictions on financing for DIY house builds, so be sure to verify that you can secure financing before starting your project.

Pole barns and carports are similar in that they rely on posts for support and are often not connected to a primary structure. The main difference between the two is that pole barns usually include walls that surround the entire perimeter of the structure, while carports generally remain open on three or four sides. It’s possible to insulate garage doors and even exterior walls on pole barns to create a comfortable workspace, and it’s a bit more secure for storage purposes. However, carports are more affordable.
