The only hiccup we had was a delay in the delivery and install of the shelter.  Unfortunately this is not under the control of Texas Tornado as the shelters are built by Bennett Steel in Tulsa, OK.  So, being a certified partner installer for Jim Giles safe room, turnaround estimates are subject to many variables at the manufacturer.  Now, when a batch of shelters was finally ready, Texas Tornado drove to Tulsa from Arlington on a Monday, picked up 3 shelters, and by Wed. they were down in Austin installing my brand new 4x6 in my garage.  I genuinely felt like I was a priority.  Install was professionally and carefully done.  Ferroscanning was performed to mark non-drillable areas of the slab.  The crew eased the shelter into the garage, causing no damage and positioning it exactly where I wanted it.  I was constantly told "We want to make sure you're satisfied" by all three of the crew.  They carefully made sure every part of the install was done correctly, not rushing it.  All of the particulars with the special deadbolts were explained and paperwork was handed over.  Balance payment was a snap.  They cleaned the whole shelter and checked all functionality before leaving.

It was a pleasure to work with Sandra Kuykendall of Texas Tornado. She came to our home to discuss our options and answered every question we had. As the installation date was approaching, we needed to ask for a change in the date because of an unforeseen commitment. Sandra had no problem with our request and worked around our schedule. It is apparent Sandra is knowledgeable on the products and really cares about her customers.

The installation was done by a crew led by her son and it went very well. They took extra care to fit the safe room into the exact spot we requested and left our garage as clean as when they arrived. Moving those safe rooms around is not easy, but they did it professionally and carefully. We had to ask for a service call a few days later to take care of a very minor issue with the safe room interior light, and they arrived on the day that we requested and took care of it.

I found Texas Tornado on Angie's list and appreciated the discount they offered. I would definitely do business with Texas Tornado again.

The team over at Texas tornado was extremely helpful.  In explaining our options and installation process we were confident in our purchase.  There was a bit of a back up due to increased orders due to demand after the OK storms - but our sales rep was great in keeping us in the loop.  Installation was thorough and the process was explained to us.  Flashing had to be removed to get unit in garage but the crews advised us - fixed all back in original shape.  They took the time to review the unit with us and ensure we were happy with the unit.

Sadly, our experience was horrible. Right from the beginning. They showed up late to the appointment. Attempted to reschedule 30 minutes before the initial appointment. We had to juggle our schedules in order to make it work. They were nice enough to give us a discount. After ordering the shelter, and being told we were doing it right by ordering early, they said we should have our shelter in 2-3 weeks. 
They told us our shelter should be here 2 weeks ago. It didn't arrive. No call. No update. No contact. We called they said it should be this week. Nothing. We waited a week and texted the owner. No one called us back.
We are now working with the credit card company to dispute the charges. 
The sad thing? We don't have access to our money for 45 days. Right in the middle of tornado season. We have 4 kids and were hoping to be able to have a shelter installed by this Spring. 
A real bummer.

"I am sorry [member name removed] is angry with us. Our commitment is to provide the very best service possible to our customers, and I'm truly sorry he was disappointed. We sell and install storm shelters and safe rooms. We don't manufacture them and have no authority over the manufacturing process.I was too hasty when we discussed time limit, but it was an honest mistake. I really thought I could provide the shelter fairly quickly because it was early in the season. I did correspond and talk with [member name removed] a number of times by text, phone and email, but was unable to speed up the production process. When he cancelled, he chose to cancel the credit card deposit he had provided. Unfortunately, the credit card company took his deposit out of my account immediately and they are holding it from him for 45 days. I think a lot of his anger is with the 45 day hold on his money, placed by the credit card company. But, even thought his deposit was withdrawn from our account immediately, they also put a hold on the next customer's deposit to our account. This $3000.00 "reserve" will be held by the Chase Paymentech Card Services for SIX MONTHS. As anyone can tell by the good reviews we have, we DO care about our customers and our reputation. I'm sorry that production time is out of my control. I and my staff will strive to be more accurate in my communications in the future."

Guys were on time and they were in and out in a few hours. Cleaned up after they installed and showed me how the lights and locks worked.
I was pleased that this shelter can be customized to any room in the house but since my budget was limited and I couldn't afford a customized shelter I decided to go with the affordable pre-sized one.  Trust me I looked everywhere and compared pricing and must say I did not find a better product at a better price.
The owner was great to work with too - very personable. HIGHLY recommend this business if you are considering a tornado shelter ... you need to check this out.

Project went very well. Salesperson showed up at the appointed time, inspected the garage where the safe room was desired and then provided a quote. We were calendared for an installation and they actually moved the install date up by a week or so. On the start of installation they did a tremendous job of protecting the garage by hanging plastic around the perimeter of the garage. They saw-cut the concrete, jack-hammered the concrete out, and dug the hole. The second day they set the box and poured the dri-crete. They came back the third day to remove the dirt removed from the hole and clean up the box. The carpeted the steps and the bottom of the inside of the box. Great project and they exceeded our expectations.

Made an appointment with Texas Tornado. Sandra and Tay Kuykendall came to my home, they answered all my questions and  we looked at locations in my garage for the safe room. Sandra explained due to demand there was a 4-5 week waiting list which was not a problem. Shelter arrived in 3 weeks, ahead of schedule.  Tommy and Tay arrived at my house on a very hot Saturday afternoon to do the install. Install took about two hours and went very smoothly. The guys are great, very clean install. This shelter is very well made and is a very secure. I highly recommend Sandra and her crew, a great experience all round.

We were very well satisfied with Sandra Kuyendall and her crew.  She was polite and professional and prompt.  She answered all our questions.  She also gave us printed information about using the safe room and being prepared for any emergency.  This room was manufactured in Tulsa by Jim Giles.  We checked the reputation of this company and found it to be solid.

We can?t say enough good things about Sandy Kuykendall and Texas Tornado Safe Rooms.  When we decided to look for someone to install a tornado safe room in our home we did a great deal of on-line research and decided that we only wanted someone certified by NSSA who had shelters that have been tested to FEMA standards to withstand  an F5 tornado (why spend the money on something not certified?).  The first company we met with wanted over $13,000 for their above-ground steel shelter.  We then met with Sandy who offers the NSSA certified Jim Giles safe room (almost identical to the other company?s shelter) at less than half the price?fully installed.  Sandy has been wonderful throughout the entire process, visiting our home to discuss installation options, working with us on the contract to meet our needs, meeting us at her showroom to show us two steel shelters, and always staying in touch about our order.  Her installation crew was excellent, taking extra time to slowly work the shelter into our low clearance garage to avoid damage, and ensuring that there was no damage to the garage floor rebar and post-tension cables.  All around a top notch, friendly, highly professional company that has found an affordable way to make tornado shelters available to the Dallas-Ft Worth area.  We highly recommend Texas Tornado without any reservations.

After extensive research, I am happy I chose Texas Tornado.  I chose the 6x4 above ground shelter/saferoom that met FEMA standards for an F5 Tornado. This was a GREAT experience and very professional from start to finish. The price for what you get is well worth it - I now feel confident my family will be safe in any tornado or other emergency. Texas Tornado responded immediately to my request for information.  They came out to check if the unit could be installed the way I wanted, gave me the estimate and I was lucky they could install within the week.  Sandra was a pleasure to work with and personally made sure everything was just as I wanted.  Her installers were extremely courteous, experienced, worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves.  All was accomplished in a few hours and to perfection. Texas is a very dangerous storm area and If you want your family to be safe, then you can trust this company - they are A+++.
