"Job disaster! Damage my newly built 30x40 shop. The installer they sent applied the foam improperly. Cody Kirkland Thermal Dynamics Insulation sales person saw the job pictures and immediately fired installer. Kirkland advise that the installer has only did a couple of jobs before mine. Kirkland said he must of been on something( not sure what that means). Kirkland said his regular spray was murdered recently. The shop looks terrible. They didn’t do any prep work to protect building. Got overspray on a partition wall that they were not authorized to spray. Got foam spray on the outside of my garage due no prep work. Dumped chemical in my driveway. Kirkland refused to correct on the damage to my garage and says it is just cosmetic. I recommend not hiring them"

The type of insulation you need in your home depends on your location, the installation site, and your region’s climate. According to Energy Star, insulation in homes in the Southern United States should have an R-value of between R30 and R60 in attics and R13 to R25 in the floors and walls; homes in moderate climates require R values of R38 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls; and homes in northern states require an R value of R49 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls.

While fiberglass is dangerous to work with, it’s a perfectly safe material once it’s installed. If you’re tackling the installation yourself, make sure you take the proper safety precautions and wear the right gear to avoid skin and eye irritation and lung complications. Ideally, you can add new insulation to your existing insulation. However, some circumstances require you to remove old insulation before adding any new insulation: 

  • If the insulation is over 15 years old

  • If the insulation is wet or moldy
