"They went over & above to make this senior comfortable till a/c was installed. Brought out 2 window units, since it was 95* here, put them in & then removed when unit was installed. Made sure my home was in order. HIGHLY RECOMMEND and their contact person (Walter) has checked on me for about 2 weeks after. Choice them when I read reviews and all the awards they have won! They have been super."

"When I needed a new ac I was originally quoted a price that was $3000 dollars more than the quote I received from First Choice. Their prices are competitive. They installed everything quickly and they provide easy financing. Both guys who came to my house we re professional and courteous. They give you a year supply of ac air filters just for letting them put a sign in your front lawn."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If both your furnace and AC unit are more than a decade old, it may be a good idea to replace both of them. However, your furnace can last up to three decades, and your air conditioner can typically last up to 15 years, so consulting with a pro before deciding to replace both of them is best. If it’s before that time limit for each, you can fix many problems with repairs or just replace one.

Split systems are the most common type of HVAC system. Split systems have two main units: an indoor one and an outdoor one. These units work together to pull in air, heat or cool it, and distribute it throughout your home. Other popular types of HVAC systems include hybrid systems and packaged heating and air systems.

The outdoor portions of air conditioners are designed to weather the rain, so you don’t need to worry about it. An awning or roof will help protect them from snow or falling debris, which can do more damage. This is true of both window AC and outdoor units for larger systems.

You can buy R-22 refrigerant for your home air-conditioning system through your local AC repair specialist, who can also refill your R-22 system as needed. You may find that the cost of R-22 has gone up due to shortages as the EPA banned this refrigerant. Ask your pro to inspect your system for any leaks or issues.

You should use a breathable, weather-resistant cover with ventilation. It can be a top cover or a full cover that has mesh to allow airflow. A full, non-breathable cover can cause moisture to build up, leading to rust, frozen parts, and corrosion. A full cover also attracts unwanted critters, such as mice, that can damage the wiring and your unit. If you need to protect your AC unit from falling icicles, choose a sturdy top cover or piece of wood that prevents icicles from damaging your unit.
