"I was very pleased with Texas Service Plumbing. Their serviceman, Brandon, arrived on time and was appreciably in this time of COVID-19 wearing a mask. Brandon was very professional and found the leak fairly quickly. I was relieved to find out that it was not a slab leak. Instead, it was underneath the hot water heater closet but above the slab. He patched the leaking pipe dutifully and cleanly patched the sheet rock holes in the garage necessary to find and patch the leak. The good price of $390 was in part for a review, but I pleased with the work anyway. I would use Texas Service Plumbing again and recommend to others."

This depends on how old your home is and residential construction norms where you live. Most modern homes have outdoor shut-off valves, but many older homes have the water meter indoors. You're most likely to find this valve in the basement or utility closet if it's indoors. If you have an outdoor shut-off valve, it should be somewhere on the perimeter of your home.

Although linear drains allow water to flow quickly and efficiently, they tend to clog more easily than traditional drains. Linear drains are flush with the shower floor, allowing soap scum and hair to potentially build up. They’re also longer than other drains, allowing for more space to let debris fall into the drainpipe. 

Pouring hot water down a drain can help unfreeze drainpipes, but it may not thaw a frozen water pipe that is completely blocked further down in your plumbing. In some circumstances, it can cause more ice buildup. You may need to use another method, like a space heater or hot towel. If you use boiling water to thaw a drainpipe, make sure your pipes can handle the heat. Over time, boiling water can damage plastic pipes.

The only downsides to hiring a master plumber is that they charge a higher hourly rate than a less experienced plumber. Plus, master plumbers likely have less availability, given the demand for highly experienced professionals. The benefits far outweigh the cons, though. Upsides include the following:

  • More experience fixing your specific issue

  • Recourse if something goes wrong

  • Warranty for the work (in some cases)

  • Some insulation from lawsuits if the plumber gets injured on your property
