"I was very pleased with Texas Service Plumbing. Their serviceman, Brandon, arrived on time and was appreciably in this time of COVID-19 wearing a mask. Brandon was very professional and found the leak fairly quickly. I was relieved to find out that it was not a slab leak. Instead, it was underneath the hot water heater closet but above the slab. He patched the leaking pipe dutifully and cleanly patched the sheet rock holes in the garage necessary to find and patch the leak. The good price of $390 was in part for a review, but I pleased with the work anyway. I would use Texas Service Plumbing again and recommend to others."

There are many reasons why water pipes leak. The most common reasons include clogs, broken rubber seals that deteriorate over time, corrosion on copper, brass, or galvanized pipes, and damaged pipe joints.

You might also have a leak if your water pressure is too high (usually higher than 60 psi) or if your fixtures have a crack. Moreover, natural changes in the area around your underground pipes, like growing tree roots, flooding, or earthquakes, can cause leaky water pipes.

No—you should always shut off the power and the water supply to the tank. Shutting off the water ensures that your water heater won’t continuously refill while you are trying to drain it, which would likely cause a big mess! Make sure to allow the hot water to cool completely before continuing the process of draining the heater.

You can temporarily patch a leaking copper pipe using epoxy putty or adhesive tape. These are not permanent solutions, and you will eventually need to remove and replace the damaged portion of the pipe.

Frozen pipes can negatively affect your hot water heater. If the pipes leading to or from your hot water heater freeze and burst, as can happen with frozen pipes, your water heater can be seriously damaged and even require replacement. In less extreme cases, frozen pipes can compromise or cut off your hot water supply.
