"I recently completed a six-month project with NRG Remodeling, and I couldn't be more impressed! The renovation of my 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home, and kitchen went smoothly from start to finish. The communication was top-notch, and the team worked quickly and efficiently, all while maintaining very fair pricing. The quality of the workmanship was outstanding, and the entire experience was stress-free—much smoother than I anticipated. It's rare to find such a professional and personable team, and I’m already planning my next project with them. I would absolutely recommend them for any home renovation and will definitely turn to them for future work!"

"We purchased the Angie's List Big Deal where we would get $500 worth of flooring and installation for $99. We went to FloorIT out in Katy and discussed what we were looking to do with Ahmed. No problem with honoring the coupon, just needed to get it scheduled. We wanted to use the same porcelain tile that we had in the Great Room, so we told Ahmed that we would purchase those materials ouselves. We knew where we could get the same to match what we had so that was easiest.
Next we looked at what materials he had to offer for going around the fireplace, didn't see anything that we liked, already knew what material and accent glass pieces we wanted. Once again, we told Ahmed that we would purchase the materials and that all we would need is the labor to remove the old tile and install the new materials.
We then set a date for the install, had to move it one day, but we were informed about 5 days before which I think is great communication. The 2 installers arrived, we discussed what was to be done and went over a couple of options with them to get their opinion on what was going to make sense and could be done. They then did the work, completed it in one day, and everything went smoothly. Cleaned up well after themselves and had no issues arise.
About the only thing I would have done differently is that we had to do some grinding around the existing marble tile by the fireplace and that caused a lot of dust in 2-3 rooms of the house. I would try to contain the dust better next time, either with a vacuum cleaner close to the grinder or more fans blowing it outside or something.
All told we spent about $200 for materials and got professional installation for $99. And that was really what I was looking for. I could get the tile I wanted, negotiate those materials and costs, while keeping my installation costs down.

"It's a pretty decent system, I think. They send you the pieces and you install them yourself, which is pretty easy. The only real problem I have is that one sensor is too far away from the panel...or there's some interference, and they haven't been able to fix that. It's an interior door, so it's not the end of the world, just a little annoying. Their customer service is pretty good though. Nice, smart customer service people on the other end, very polite and helpful."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

A fireplace that doesn’t require a chimney is simply called a chimneyless fireplace. Don’t confuse these with ventless fireplaces, however. There are some fireplaces that require ventilation via a system of pipes, not a chimney. More specifically, the fireplace in question will likely be called by its name, such as electric, ethanol, or balanced flue.

If you have a gas fireplace with an electric ignition and you’re experiencing a power outage, you will need to light your fireplace’s pilot manually before you can start a fire. The instructions should be in the manufacturer’s manual.

In addition to flashing, a roof cricket can help divert water around your chimney so that it drains properly off your roof. It’s shaped like a double triangle and is installed behind the chimney so that falling water spills evenly down each side. This helps prevent water from accumulating behind your chimney, which can increase water damage and the risk of leaks.

The International Building Code (IBC) requires cricket installation if a chimney built after 2012 measures over 30 inches in width. Chimneys constructed before that date are typically grandfathered in and aren’t required to have crickets installed.

They provide excellent heat retention and durability and add a classic aesthetic to a home.

A chimney requires both a cover and a cap, but these parts often get confused with one another. A chimney cover seals the top of the chimney around the flue pipe to prevent water from entering the chimney. A chimney cap is a piece that sits above the flue to prevent animals, debris, and water from entering the flue.
