"Employees at Cytech were very courteous and assisted with the scheduling. I had never purchased thru Angie's and didn't know how it worked. The office manager assisted graciously and scheduled the work. The technician stopped by later than expected but I was called before to verify that someone would be home. The technician answered our many questions and made suggestions that would help us in saving on our electricity and maintenance on our AC unit. Additional estimate was scheduled and they were able to meet our timeframes. We are considering getting additional work done by Cytech."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Buying a house with aluminum wiring requires careful consideration due to potential fire risks. Ensure a thorough inspection by a licensed electrician to assess the condition and identify necessary safety upgrades—factor in these additional costs when deciding. While it may not be a total deal-breaker, understanding the risks and required maintenance is necessary. Also, you should consult your insurer about coverage for homes with aluminum wiring to know whether the house is insurable.

Most LED bulbs have a plastic covering, while incandescent bulbs will be made from glass. This is because LED bulbs don’t produce as much heat as incandescent bulbs, so the covering doesn’t need to be as heat resistant. Also, an LED light bulb will usually have a marking on its base that identifies it as an LED.

When installing an outdoor outlet, it's important to proceed with caution. Unless you have the necessary training and licensure, it's not recommended to attempt this DIY. First, choose a suitable location. Make sure that the area can accommodate the outlet without overloading the circuit. You'll also need to ensure that your project complies with building codes. Next, turn off the power to the circuit, then install and wire the outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions. Once the outlet is in place, test it. Lastly, be sure to use a cover that will protect it from moisture and other weather-related damage.

An electrician can handle wiring issues with the garage door opener, like faulty connections, circuit problems, or sensor malfunctions, but they’re not the right person to hire for mechanical repairs. Garage door specialists handle things like broken springs, tracks, and panels, while electricians step in if there’s an issue with power supply, motor function, or safety sensors that aren’t responding correctly.

Yes, it's possible to have electrical receptacles and overhead lights on the same circuit. The reason is that lights typically use much less power than large appliances, so combining them won't overload your circuit. By doing this, you can distribute the power consumption throughout the breakers in your panel more efficiently, which can be helpful if you have a lot of different electrical devices in your home.
