It depends on the type of concrete and how long it takes to cure. Some concrete countertops can be sanded 3 days after pouring, while other slabs may require weeks to cure before sanding.

Concrete can crack from general wear, improper installation, or in response to uneven support from the soil underneath. There’s no legal requirement that states that you need rebar in a concrete driveway, but since the slab will be supporting heavy vehicle loads, it’s always a good idea to pay a bit more for rebar reinforcement. Your driveway will be much more likely to crack if you don’t reinforce it with rebar. Driveways that need to support commercial vehicles or provide parking for multiple vehicles at once should always include rebar reinforcement. If you’re pouring concrete over asphalt or pouring concrete over an existing slab, you may not have enough depth for rebar, meaning an increased risk of cracking.

Concrete discoloration is when some or all of the concrete has a different color than its intended shade. It could be dirty, stained, or have issues from installation, such as improper curing or inconsistent finishing. You can fix concrete discoloration in various ways, such as cleaning the surface, painting it, or resurfacing it. To prevent concrete discoloration, hire a pro who has experience with your type of project, whether it’s a garage floor, patio, or porch.

The cost of asphalt driveway repair is usually similar to the cost of average concrete driveway repairs, but maintaining asphalt tends to be less expensive on a per-instance basis. For example, resurfacing asphalt costs about $1 less per square foot, but it doesn’t last as long as concrete and will need more frequent repairs. An asphalt driveway lasts 20 to 25 years, but a well-maintained concrete driveway can last twice as long, so the maintenance costs and timeline even out.
