We are a locally owned and operated business dedicated to customer service. We are members of the BBB with an A+ rating, winners of the 2012 Abilene Reader's Choice Award, Chamber of Commerce members, and have an upstanding reputation within our community.

"It was a BAD experience. We signed a contract and they changed the price twice after the fact. They changed the price once before they started. They used the excuse that the guy who did the bidding was on medication. Not my problem. I know that sounds a bit harsh, but they should never have sent him out on a job. The contractors stayed until 9:00pm on the last day which was WAY too late to be working on someone's house. Their boss had told them to stay until they were finished. They actually did not finish the job and said they would come back and finish, but they have not been back as of today. He also promised to seal everything off, windows and bricks that had separated. We even had a window fall out."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

To drill a shallow well, you may be able to use a drive well point. This is a tapered point that is driven into the ground. A drill bit at the end of PVC pipe may be another option to consider. A lot of the cost depends on what tools are available near you.

Most states do not require excavation companies to hold specific licenses, but many require at least a contractor’s license. Additionally, heavy equipment operators require a special commercial equipment license to operate machinery required for excavation. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to confirm that an excavation company you’re considering hiring is fully licensed. You should also make sure that the excavation team is fully insured before allowing them to work on your property.

The physical constraints of hand-drilling a well limit the depth you can achieve. Manually digging with picks and shovels may only lead to shallow wells of up to 60 feet in depth. To reach greater depths, you need more specialized equipment. The diameter of your well and the tools you’re using will determine how far down you can dig.

The average cost of excavation is around $3,200. Most jobs fall somewhere between $500 and $15,000, depending on the amount of soil to remove, whether or not there are landscaping features or structures in the vicinity that could complicate the excavation, and the quality and contents of the soil. Larger jobs will naturally cost more, as will those in tight spaces that demand manual excavation as opposed to using heavy machinery. Hard soil and tree roots can also extend the job and drive up your labor costs.

Tree experts don’t advise against digging through tree roots, but instead encourage caution and consultation with a local arborist to make sure you don’t damage the tree’s structure or interrupt its water or nutrient intake. An arborist can recommend specific practices when digging and help prune the roots or dig a trench for utilities with a tool that can remove soil without touching the tree’s roots.
