"The basement king was a pleasure to work with. His knowledge is unmatched in the Texas area for sure. I received multiple quotes and talked to multiple companies and he was the best. He's passionate about his work and the manner in which it's done. If he says something, it happens. An added benefit was their cleanliness. Usually a job site of this size and complexity is a mess, but not with the basement kings. 10/10!"

"1. Lack of Care Clean up was minimal. Debris was left on the driveway in front of the house, on the front doorstep, and on the back patio. They often left the doors open allowing the tile and wood saw dust to settle in the house, they didn't use tarps. There was also a considerable lack of care with the materials used and an excess of waste due to haste. 2. Lack of Focus The owner was often taken away from the job for meetings to pursue his other professional endeavors. His attention, time and "cash flow" were divided in too many directions. 3. Lack of Attention to Detail The grout work for the tile in the shower and bath ledges is less than desirable, the granite was left with gaps and raw unpolished edges, the patches from damage to the wall and ceilings looks like it was done by a novice. 4. Lack of Dependability I have now been waiting over a month and have reached out multiple times for work to be finished. I have no faith he will honor his warranty."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Stone, marble, and brick are common building materials of Neoclassical architecture, though you will also find wood flooring and a range of natural stone tiles. Since several home styles fall under Neoclassical architects' umbrella, a range of building materials—including traditional wood framing—will make an appearance.

Costs depend on material choices, labor, and the extent of structural modifications.

Many horizontal cracks in home foundations result from water and soil pressure from outside of the building or from a footing that is shifting. Under those circumstances, horizontal cracks are a structural problem that requires repair before they become worse and more difficult to fix. However, in very specific cases, thin horizontal cracks may simply be a cosmetic blemish due to concrete shrinkage.

The depth of any foundation style depends on your climate and how deep the frost line is, as building code requires that the footers of a foundation—which are built into a monolithic slab—sit at least a foot below the frost line. At the southern tip of Florida, for example, a monolithic slab foundation would only need to sit 12 inches under the soil at the widest parts. On some parts of the Canadian border, the frost line is 100 inches, which would mean a minimum of 112 inches, which is prohibitively deep for a monolithic slab.

The National Association of Home Builders requires repair of any foundation crack of more than one quarter of an inch, although local regulations may vary. In general, any visible crack that is growing in size, allowing water through, or that you have just noticed, is a good reason to call a structural engineer. Cracks can be a sign of a sinking foundation, so an inspection is a good idea for your peace of mind.
