"This young man, single-handedly, transformed my front yard from a hot mess to a showplace in about 2 hrs.! He trimmed the hedge, weeded the beds, & mowed/trimmed the front & back lawns. He is friendly, professional, & gave me an honest & reasonable estimate before he started the job. He is able to handle the seasonal needs of my lawn & has been certified to manage irrigation, i.e., my sprinklers. With my previous service, my irrigation needs had to be handled by an affiliate of his, which came w/ an additional charge. I would highly recommend this service to anyone who needs dependable & complete yard care."

"Ben and his crew did a great job installing my new fence and then mowing my lawn. Ben delivered on every commitment and was reassuring when I had concerns. I am retired and I believe that Ben did his best to keep my costs down (even though we all know fences are pricey these days.) I highly recommend Kingdom Kutz!"

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

If your lawn and general landscape are struggling, consider calling a local landscape specialist to suggest lawn amendments, local plants, and hardscape changes to boost the long-term health of your outdoor space. While you may be able to take on small projects yourself—such as reseeding your lawn or testing the soil—a professional can help you build a plan to bring a struggling yard back to life quickly.

As a beginner, start by mowing your lawn in symmetrical rows by turning the mower at the end of each row and overlapping with the previous row. Use an edging tool or weedwacker to make your lawn look sharp and crisp around the edges, and then sweep the debris back into the yard. Take it slow, and know that you can adjust your approach or pattern the next time your grass needs a clip.

In most cases, it is worth paying for professional lawn care. DIY lawn maintenance is possible, but it can get extremely time-consuming, especially to make your property look well-maintained. Not only is lawn maintenance time-intensive, but it can also get expensive, even to DIY, especially considering the cost of fuel and maintenance for your lawn care tools. Professional lawn care services average around $100 per service, making it a relatively inexpensive investment, especially for how much time it saves you.

Here are some questions you should ask lawn mowing companies before hiring one to service your lawn:

  • How long have you been in business?

  • Are you licensed and fully insured?

  • Do you collect and haul away cut grass or mulch it and leave it behind?

  • Do you provide add-on services other than lawn mowing?

  • Do you plan to use herbicides and pesticides?

  • If I run into an issue with service, what does the resolution process look like?

When spring arrives, it’s best to hold off on mowing until temperatures have consistently reached a temperature of at least 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Attempting to mow grass that hasn't fully thawed from its winter dormancy can harm the delicate blades. Ensure your grass is dry before mowing and aim to mow when the grass is about three to four inches tall, trimming no more than one-third of the grass blade's height at a time. This timing encourages healthy growth and prevents shock to the grass, preparing your lawn for a happy, healthy growing season.
