"I recently completed a six-month project with NRG Remodeling, and I couldn't be more impressed! The renovation of my 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home, and kitchen went smoothly from start to finish. The communication was top-notch, and the team worked quickly and efficiently, all while maintaining very fair pricing. The quality of the workmanship was outstanding, and the entire experience was stress-free—much smoother than I anticipated. It's rare to find such a professional and personable team, and I’m already planning my next project with them. I would absolutely recommend them for any home renovation and will definitely turn to them for future work!"

"I am 100% thrilled at the results.  I've had these before and with a new build I just couldn't go without them again.  Michael Kilby was extremely professional, always keeping informed and the workmanship and installation were top notch.  Thank you Michael.

"Neitra did a fantastic job.  She had brilliant ideas for what items should go where and got the job done in record time.  I wish I had half her energy and enthusiasm.  We will definitely have her back.

"Sue came punctually on the dot the very next day. She helped me open boxes, sort into 3 piles KEEP, DONATE, TRASH. She even made a written list of the "Donate" list for tax purposes. She brought her own garbage bags. She was friendly, professional, a team worker. She kept me on task for 6.5 hours through lunch. She hauled away the trash that could not be kept by the curbside pick-up. She helped me carry and move boxes inside the house, to storage, even organized my storage area. She gently nudged w/o being pushy so much so that even after we both put in a day's work in the hot humid 90+ degree weather, I was motivated to go to the donation site and unload a car load of items. I find myself a lot less stressed and find the remainder of the task more manageable. Sue's price w/ the Senior discount was much lower than all the others in the industry. I could have hired a college kid for a lower price, but I appreciated Sue's gentle prodding, professional style, and my peace of mind at the end of the day, that I would definitely hire her again. Thank you Sue! and God bless!"

Closets questions, answered by experts

You can design your own closet, but it’s usually better to hire a professional to do the work for you. Not only will you get years of design experience to guide you toward the right layout and material choices, but you’ll also only pay slightly more hiring a professional than you would creating your own plans and hiring a carpenter. A high-quality closet designer can provide insight into how to lay out your closet, and they may be able to find you a good deal on the carpentry or complete the work using an affordable, in-house team.

You may need a building permit to add a closet, depending on the size and kind of work required to install it. The most likely scenario requiring a permit involves changing the structure of the house and performing electrical work for closet lighting. A permit can cost between $100 and $450. If you’re installing a smaller reach-in closet, a permit may not be required, but always check with your local municipality and consult a closet designer or builder.

The differences between a built-in closet and a walk-in aren’t that different from a built-in wardrobe and a walk-in closet. It’s fairly simple—a walk-in closet is a closet you can physically enter, stand in, and walk around in. A built-in (whether wardrobe or closet) is more akin to covered shelves installed into a recess in the wall. Another big difference is walk-in closets almost always have traditional full-size doors, while built-ins either have no doors or use sliding doors.

Yes, adding a built-in or custom closet generally increases your home's value and makes it more attractive to potential buyers. A well-designed closet adds utility, organization, and a touch of luxury, which are appealing selling points. Most homeowners see a return on investment (ROI) of 50% to 60%; for example, a custom closet can add about $1,000 to your home's value on average. The specific ROI depends on the type, with custom walk-in closets typically providing more value than reach-in closets. However, to maximize value, ensure the closet doesn't significantly detract from the room's usable square footage. Converting an entire room into a closet can actually lower your home's value. Similarly, using overly lavish materials may not recoup their cost. A good strategy is to add a closet that takes square footage from a non-living area, such as a garage, to create a mudroom closet.

Fortunately, there are no hard and fast rules or regulations regarding the height of closet shelving. However, the typical height for a single closet shelf with a hanging bar is 70 inches from the floor. For a double-hanging system, use 84 to 85 inches from the floor for the top one and 42 inches for the lower.
