"I highly recommend Moses. From the beginning I felt he understood my vision. He was patient with us on timing and the guys worked hard to finish before our house warming party. They painted our white cabinets black and added gold hardware, painted our mantle and two bedrooms. We will use them again in the future for sure."

"We got many quotes over several years time before deciding on Spray Tex. It was impossible to pass up after meeting with the super knowledgeable sales guy, and then seeing the total. We thought at first that it could be a typo. (It wasnâ t) The stylist helped us choose colors, the crew were here on time everyday, the PM came by everyday, they finished on timeâ ¦..AND they had us mark anything we wanted them to take a final look at & everything looks perfect! They painted our whole interiorâ ¦ crown molding, kitchen cabinets, doors, trim, walls, ceilings, even sheet rock repair in several areas. We lived in the house all day every day because my husband works from home and I stay with my toddler. They were very thoughtful about when and how they painted from room to room so that we always had somewhere to hang out without being bothered. Go with this company, you will not be disappointed!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Choose based on climate, finish preference (glossy, matte), and durability. Tailored coatings also provide longevity.

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.
