"**Public Warning: Beware of Unethical Practices by This Contractor** I feel compelled to issue a public warning about this contractor due to an unfortunate experience that resulted in the abandonment of a project at our place of business, leaving us with two completely gutted restrooms and a kitchenette. Despite promptly paying additional funds for unforeseen plumbing issues—which were presented as critical to address and correct—the contractor abruptly ceased work shortly thereafter. From the outset, I trusted the contractor’s expertise, as he seemed knowledgeable and capable. In fact, his quote was the highest I received, but I was willing to invest in quality, expecting that this would ensure superior results. Unfortunately, after nearly a week of no activity on the site, I reached out to confirm whether the project was still on track. The contractor then informed me, in a dismissive and unprofessional manner, that he had abandoned the job and demanded additional funds. Upon further inspection, my team confirmed that his crew had removed all their tools and supplies days earlier, clearly indicating a premeditated abandonment after securing additional payments. Despite my attempts to have a reasonable conversation regarding the operational impact of his actions—our facility was left without functioning restrooms—his response was dismissive, rude, and unprofessional. He arrogantly stated that the situation was "not a me problem, it's a you problem," before cutting off the discussion to attend a meeting, all while sending an invoice for further supposed costs. I want to stress that throughout the project, there were clear warning signs of unethical behavior. The contractor consistently exaggerated every issue to justify requests for more money. Despite my assurance that I would cover unforeseen costs, provided they were documented and reasonable, his approach became increasingly questionable. It is also important to note the contractor’s pattern of using personal issues—such as family emergencies, medical concerns, and psychiatric diagnoses—as justifications for being late to scheduled calls or meetings, or for consistently over-explaining and exaggerating project details. This resulted in ineffective communication and the dissemination of inaccurate information. In any professional setting, mistakes are bound to happen, but the responsible course of action is to own those mistakes, communicate effectively, and work towards a resolution. Instead, this contractor repeatedly deflected responsibility onto the customer, an approach that will inevitably lead to continued problems for any business owner. It is clear that this contractor relies on smooth-talking clients into trusting him before taking advantage of their goodwill.
