We are a local roofing company that specializes in storm damage repair. Our services include:insurance claims specialist, roofing( metal/shingle), add-ons, awnings and decks, gutters, siding and more! Check out our Facebooks page: @borntorooftx for more infom

"Very good, crew was very knowledgeable and professional, only one issue occurred during installation, we had a metal roof installed and as the crew began installation about half way through discovered that they were eight sheets of metal short and couldn't finish the job, this caused about a seven day delay on completion. We are very pleased with the finished product though, looks great."

Siding questions, answered by experts

You can put new siding over clapboards, but it’s not recommended. Some sidings, like vinyl siding, can go over clapboards with sheathing like a foam layer in between. However, it’s best to remove clapboard siding if you plan on replacing it with new siding. Burying wood clapboards underneath new siding can create risks of rot and mold, or hidden insect damage. It can also create warping issues over time. Removing clapboards allows you to properly install a new sheathing, as well as clean up the exterior wall and look for any signs of damage.

Hardie board is more expensive than vinyl siding. Vinyl siding costs $3 to $12 per square foot, on average, with cost skewing toward the lower end of that range. Hardie board siding costs $7 to $18 per square foot, depending on the style, color, and trim. However, it lasts twice as long and often looks nicer, meaning you’ll see a higher bump in your home value and greater curb appeal from Hardie board.

Caulking should be re-applied roughly every five years. It's natural for a home to settle and separate caulking from joints, so it's a good idea to assess the home every two years. A consistent siding maintenance schedule will help you see if the caulking is needed and address any potential issues before they occur.

Many people looking for an alternative to stucco consider fiber cement, stone veneer, brick, stone, and vinyl. Wood is another potentially affordable option, but it requires more maintenance than stucco, so most homeowners who like the look and minimal siding maintenance of stucco opt for brick or stone. There are many different siding options, so you’ll need to weigh your priorities in terms of budget, aesthetics, insulation, and other factors.

Yes, you can mix siding types to create a unique design. However, it requires thoughtful planning to execute properly. The installation process will also be more time-consuming than if you were to choose either vertical or horizontal for the entire home, so it will cost you more in labor and design costs.
