"Nolan Wildlife did a great job removing the roof rats from our attic. They were professional and explained the process very well. They sealed up our home to prevent further intrusions and cleaned up all the rat droppings and sanitized the crawlspace for us. We are so grateful for their expertise. Highly recommend."

"They were much more thorough AND less expensive than the others. The other two companies were in a hurry to tell me I had rats and to charge me for removal. American Rodent Control took the time to look closer and determine that it was racoons and took care if the problem right away. Good folks."

"Very knowledgeable guy who seem to know what he’s doing. Don’t know results of spraying. Have had much rain since. Will have to see if it worked. Terminex will spray again the beginning of next month."

"My experience with Nolan Wildlife Services has been nothing short of amazing. The first company I talked to about my squirrel infestation told me "to watch for what time of day the squirrels were out, so they could come out around that time and seal up the hole." I guessed that could possibly work and be the cheapest option if we got lucky, but it didn't exactly give me much confidence. Thankfully, I decided to call out Nolan Wildlife Services for a second opinion, and they quickly made me realize my problem was much worse than a simple hole needing to be patched. As we walked through the attic, he showed me several areas of potential entry into the attic needing to be addressed. He also showed me evidence (droppings and tunnels through insulation) that my attic was also infested with roof rats, in addition to squirrels. Nolan not only laid out an extensive plan of removal of the infestations happening in several locations and repair of the existing points of entry, but also discussed what needed to be done in and around the house to ensure future infestations would have little to no chance of taking place again. The process of infestation removal has not been easy or cheap, but I feel the value, professionalism, and thoroughness of service received from Nolan Wildlife have been second to none. I will recommend them to everyone I know. Thanks, Nolan!"

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

An owl's worst enemy in the wild is often other raptors and environmental factors. Among the avian threats, larger owls or other birds of prey can pose a danger, engaging in territorial disputes or competing for food resources. Terrestrial predators like foxes, raccoons, and larger mammals may target owl nests or young fledglings. Environmental factors like severe weather conditions, habitat loss, and food availability changes can also significantly impact owl populations.

Some animals, such as bats or birds, will be able to get out of chimneys on their own since they can fly. Other animals, however, may have a harder time and will require the help of a professional to escape. Squirrels and raccoons in particular may become stuck inside a chimney, especially if you have a buildup of soot or creosote inside. This can prevent them from being able to climb out, in which case you’ll need to call an animal control expert to help remove them.

Woodpeckers usually feed on homes when there is a food source present, and termites are one possible source. However, the presence of woodpeckers doesn’t necessarily mean there are termites. They may also be feeding on more harmless insects like ants or spiders. If woodpeckers seem drawn to one particular part of your home’s siding, it might be worth hiring a termite inspector to check for the presence of these pesky critters.

Fake owls are a common goose deterrent decoy and one of the most humane ways to scare away geese. Unfortunately, some geese are wise to fake predators. Decoys can be more effective if you move them around frequently or purchase ones with motion features. Decoys that move in the wind are also more effective than stationary decoys.

When it comes to keeping birds from doing their business on your porch rails, you have several DIY options and home remedies you can try:

  • Tie a fishing line from one end of the deck post to the other. Birds won’t be able to see the line across the railing, so they can’t land on it.

  • Hang wind chimes close by, which may scare birds away.

  • Apply a bird gel repellent to the railings, which contains smells that birds generally don’t like. Or, similarly, you can apply citronella or lemon oil around the railings, since birds don’t like strong smells.
