They arrived right on time on the day of the appointment. All was well until the original guy that came out to the house told me that he didn't want to try to move my china cabinet. (It is of average weight for a traditional china cabinet.) He said he didn't notice it before, which was interesting because he had asked me to empty it. There are only two pieces of furniture in the dining room, so I'm assuming he forgot about the china cabinet. He wanted to leave the cabinet in place without refinishing under it. I expressed concern about the floor looking different where it wasn't refinished. Then he said the floor might get scratched if he moved it and asked me if I would be OK with that. I said "no" to that. He asked if I was ever going to move it, and pointed out that the floor couldn't be seen under the cabinet. I explained that the furniture might be moved, and that the contract indicated the entire entire floor was to be refinished. He left, explaining that the rest of the floor needed to cure before moving the cabinet, but promised that he would come back out to refinish under the cabinet "for free", but didn't seem to want to schedule a time to come back. I was supposed to call him later to ask for this last bit of the job to be done. Before he left, I suggested that the lambswool sliders that he had borrowed from me to slide my heavy couch across the floor could also be used to move the cabinet. Later that day, I noticed thin shiny streaks throughout the entire floor. The floor looked like it had scratches. The owner came back out to see it himself, was very nice, and sent the same two workers back out to do a second coat. The floor looked nice when they left, BUT THEY LEFT AGAIN WITHOUT REFINISHING UNDER THE CABINET, saying they would have to come back because they didn't have something they needed to do the job. IDK Not understanding when they were going to finish the job or why they didn't finish the job on the second visit, I decided to ask the owner directly. I texted the owner's phone and asked when they could come back out to finish the job. 9 days later, there was still no response. I texted again and asked for a reply. This is the response I received from the owner's phone. It is an exact quote with no missing words: "My guys are coming out next Wednesday. I cannot just spend gas time, and labor making multiple trips out, so this will be the last time. Please understand if my guys cannot move the cabinet safely, then you will have to hire professional movers." I texted back and asked if the owner really typed that response. I haven't gotten a reply as of today and it has been almost 3 weeks, so that is why I am writing this review. By the way, I moved the china cabinet myself using the sliders I had suggested they try. It took me about 5 minutes and didn't harm the floor. They finally came back and refinished under the cabinet as promised in our contract. The floors look nice, but it was a major hassle working with this company. There were issues, however.
|
|The cabinets delivered were not in accordance with the face elevation drawings. To keep the job on schedule I had to persuade myself to accept the cabinets as delivered, but I am still not happy. A professional remodeller would not have allowed this to occur. Mr. Jurak seldom visited the job site, so it is not a surprise that he did not know of the problem and insist that it be rectified and that the cabinets be redone per the drawings.
|
|The middle drawer of the cabinet was tiny. I had to reject it and insist that the drawer be per the drawings.
|
|I found that the budget that Jurak allocated for the fixtures and pulls was a Home Depot budget yet they pointed me to high priced stores to acquire the items. I shopped where they sent me. I had no idea about the current cost for the items and did not realize that I would blow the budget at the stores where they sent me. Jurak did accommodate the budget in the final negotiations at settlement, however, so I should not really complain. I would have shopped at Home Depot if I had known up front that the budget was "stingy". I thought, however, that I had contracted for a premium job. My message is that if you use Jurak be careful about the budgeted allocations. The amount may be stingy even if you are paying a premium price for the project.
|
|I have subsequently been told by a duct cleaning firm that I hired from Angie's List that did an energy audit that the bathroom vent van was not properly installed.
|
|I hired Statewide Remodeling to redo our kitchen. The difference between Statewide and Jurak was amazing. The Statewide project manager visited me at least every other day and we made decisions and adjustments before anything could become a problem. All the cabinets etc. were delivered per the drawings and I knew ahead of time what to expect on everything.

After the house was dried out they were here to talk with the adjuster and make sure he was aware of all the damage. Our kitchen was gutted and rebuilt. Our cabinets were custom and done at a reasonable cost. He used a stain specialist, leaving us with cabinets that look like a piece of furniture. When the granite man made a mistake, Dan took care of the problem, correcting it perfectly. The flooring is beautiful as is the ceiling repair, new lighting, appliances and painting. There were flecks of paper and dust all through the cabinets and drawers, making it obvious they were not cleaned at all. The fan in master was barely wiped, you could see heavy dust areas and then a random swipe of cleaned area. The master closet has several shelves throughout, and appeared unwiped, specks of dust and paper were lying on the shelves. Shower door still had crust and flakes of something black (no idea what that was) at the bottom, making it look as though the shower door wasn't even touched. This house is old and had some bad spots in the cabinets, which I didn't expect them to work on. But that didn't mean they could avoid the entire cabinetry in the back rooms. They had demo the old crummy bathroom, everything except for the roman tub. first they built the framework for the shower and tub skirt. Then they installed the cement backboards and plumbing assembly. Then they started to install the shower tile, but they didn't do the pattern we wanted. Alan/Cole was notified and they quickly replaced all the tile to our satisfaction. They continued the pattern all the way to the floor seamlessly. Next they started to patch the wall, re-texture, and painted it and the crown molding. Then they came in with vanity and medicine cabinets, but they forgot to build the toilet room cabinet. After that they installed the granite and vanity fixtures. The granite people that they are contracted with couldn't come in for a few days, so it delayed it further. After that they installed the bathroom accessories, toilet room cabinet and patch up any chips of paint. Any remaining clean up duties were performed.
Do's and don'ts
We had a mix-up with the tile design so I would clearly draw out or describe you design concept to them initially and throughout the project. "I do not like to leave negative reviews, but I feel a responsibility to do so for future clients. We thought this experience would be great, the sales person RJ was very responsive especially in the beginning. Things started taking a turn for the worse when the painters took 2 1/2 months to complete a job that should have taken 2 to 3 weeks at most. They did not use any protective covers and either left paint all over our new floors, new tile, and furniture or ruined things such as our new electrical wires that they coated with drywall. They also left holes and huge seams in our brand new ceiling along with gaps in the drywall, among so many other things. Our completion date was October, then November, then December, then January and we finally just had to move into the unfinished home. Some of the contractors did a great job and the others we obviously not trained to do the job they were hired for. Unfortunately, we had paid everything up front except a small amount for an add on service. They did not care that we were not happy all they wanted was the money due. They came out and did finally hire someone competent to fix our ceiling and the holes in our wall but then they sent out the same team that made the mistakes to "fix" some other items and it was just terrible work. My husband and I are not people who typically complain about things but we spent close to $100,000 and we were really disappointed that the work was done poorly and we were dealt with so poorly. Honestly there is so much more I could list but I am so exhausted by all of this and I just want to be done with it. I hope this keeps someone else from going through the same thing."

FAQs for cabinet making projects in Mineral Wells, TX
Custom cabinets are worth the investment to transform the look of your kitchen with a design, color scheme, and aesthetic that’s unique to your home. If you’re looking for cabinets that reflect your personality but are more cost-effective, semi-custom cabinets are a great alternative that allows you to showcase your style, but with pre-made cabinets instead of fully custom. Custom cabinets also provide a 70 to 80 percent return on investment, making them a worthwhile purchase.
There are a few key differences between custom and semi-custom cabinets. While custom cabinets offer complete customization, semi-custom cabinets are less personalized, offering fewer paint color, finish, and hardware choices. In addition, custom cabinets typically take longer to install due to the build time, whereas semi-custom cabinets are prefabricated and therefore faster to install.
If you're looking for ways to save money on custom cabinets, there are a few ways to cut costs without sacrificing beauty. For starters, comparing door styles to choose the most cost-effective option is a great way to save money on the overall project.
In addition, choosing a common wood species versus an exotic one will lower the price. Woods like oak and hickory are often more affordable wood choices, and the same goes for knobs, pulls, and other finishes where picking a commonly available style can reduce costs.
Custom cabinets cost between $500 and $1,200 per linear foot on average to install. Factors like materials, size, and type of cabinet doors you choose significantly affect the overall cost.
For example, a basic slab cabinet door can cost $60 to $70 for materials alone. As its name suggests, this material is a piece of wood with no unique features. However, a mullioned glass inset panel door, which features a designed glass panel, ranges from $100 to $200 for materials per cabinet door.
Like most special-order items, custom cabinets have several pros and cons to consider when buying new cabinets. Custom cabinets are typically more expensive than prefabricated cabinet options, but the work often reflects the quality. Custom cabinets tend to last 20 or more years, but the time it takes to install them is typically longer than other cabinets—roughly 6 to 8 weeks on average from the time of ordering. However, a major benefit is the ability to personalize every aspect of your cabinetry, from cabinet hardware to custom paint colors.
