"I met Dennis, the owner of Roll City Painting, when I was looking for someone to repair the trim around my garage door. I did not realize at the time that instead of a repairman, I needed a painter, and a good one. Mine is a brick house, over 20 years old. One thing led to another and I realized that not just the garage door, but all the trim around the house needed attention and a few other things besides. The crew at Roll City Painting did the entire house trim, re-stained a fence which badly needed re-staining, re-stained a pergola to match, painted a concrete patio, and even rebuilt four exterior decorative shutters that were beginning to disintegrate. The crew was competent and careful, and went out of their way to make sure it was all done right and to make sure I was satisfied. All in all, I would highly recommend this company."

"The paint ing crew they originally sent out did a terrible job. Sloppy workmanship and huge missed spots in every room. I called and expressed my dissatisfaction and they immediately sent out someone to access the situation. They agreed with my assessment and sent out a whole new crew the next day and completely repainted the house. Looks amazing! Thank you Five Star for standing behind your workmanship."

"I can't say enough positive things about this company and the job they did with my home! My family and I are over the moon about the new look. The quality is amazing! Our home was built in 1984 but looks brand new!!! The front, back and garage doors look right out of the factory. Definitely coming back for my kitchen because I see they do that too! Reasonably priced and so professional. Just outstanding! Thanks to Kyler, Dillon and their team!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on coating type, labor, site preparation, and required finishes.

Two coats of stain are ideal for the best protection and aesthetic appeal. However, if your decking is made of particularly dense hardwood, you may only need one coat. If you want an intense color, two coats are ideal.

Painting a damaged pool deck is not recommended if the substrate is crumbling, cracking, spalling, or otherwise actively deteriorating. Continuing deterioration will result in the paint also delaminating or flaking off the damaged surface. Minor damage such as chips or hairline cracks that are not actively deteriorating can often be repaired enough to paint over. A damaged pool deck with a lot of cracking and deterioration should be replaced for best results.

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

For homes in areas with extreme weather, high heat, or intense sun exposure, high-quality acrylic paint is the best option. Acrylic paint is durable, resistant to both heat and cold, and provides a protective barrier with excellent UV resistance. For best results, look for acrylics that contain natural earth pigments, which are better suited for resisting sun damage. While oil-based paint is also durable, it can be prone to fading in high heat and can become too viscous to apply easily in cold temperatures. Additionally, choosing a neutral or light color like gray, beige, or white can help, as these colors absorb less heat than darker shades.
