"E&A Professional Tree Service did an amazing job cutting back two large trees that were growing into the roof of my home. They came to my home for a free quote and I was given the quote the same day. They completed the work the very next week! Very fast response and great service for a very reasonable price! Will definitely be recommending them to friends and family!"

"They have done a wonderful job maintaining the lawn and are east to work with. I also hired them to trim the large oak tree in our backyard that had branches hanging over the roof. They did a great job of trimming, cleaning up all the branches and gutters and hauling everything away. I highly recommend them!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Yes, tree roots can regenerate after they’re pruned or cut. In fact, trimming can stimulate new growth, especially in healthy trees. The tree’s roots can still grow back even after a tree is cut down, (and learning how to get rid of regrowing tree roots is a separate feat). Still, if you don’t wish to harm a tree, pruning the roots should be done with extreme care, and ideally by a professional.

A tree branch should start to form roots in about three months. It can take about a year for a tree branch to develop roots strong enough to go in the ground. For best results, start several branches because, no matter how closely you follow instructions, they won’t all form roots. Compost any that aren’t thriving.

A few signs a tree may be dead is if the leaves are dead and there are no signs of new blooms. You can also perform a scratch test on some of the branches to check the condition of the cambium layer beneath the bark.

If it is green, it is still alive, but if several are dry, brittle, and brown, the tree may be dying or dead. Always consult an arborist before assuming your tree is dead because you may be able to save it.

Tree roots can take weeks to years to die, depending on the method you use. Chemical herbicides take the least amount of time—typically between three and four weeks—while homemade methods, like covering an old stump with leaves, could take between seven and eight years. If you’re unsure which method to use or how quickly you need to act, consulting with a pro is always a good idea.

No, homeowners insurance typically does not cover the cost of removing a dead, sick, or rotting tree that is still standing. Insurance is designed to protect against sudden and unexpected accidents, whereas a tree dying or rotting over time is considered a maintenance issue. Coverage usually only applies after a tree has fallen and caused damage to your property.
