"Don was on time, friendly, extremely knowledgeable, gave lots of tips as to how to build a fire in the fireplace properly, where to store oak fire wood outside the house. He cleaned the fireplace completely and told us what else to add to the chimney to protect the chimney and roof. He will order a part to repair the crack in the back of the fireplace. He will install it as soon as he gets the part. Dons service fee was very economical for the work he did. The service took about hour and half. We would highly recommend Dons Chimney Service for chimney inspection, cleaning and repair."
"They were very good. Their pricing, they were very quick to send a quote. The guy was here the next day for drawings and everything. The overall was very good."
"I telephoned and left a message asking him to call me about chimney sweeping. I took about one day before Mr. Austin contacted me but he immediately set an appointment for the day he called. He arrived on time, assessed requirements and quoted a price that seemed reasonable. He explained what he needed to do and then set right to work after moving a few items out of the way. It took him about one hour to complete the job and remove a large pile of cresote that he had swept from the chimney. He cleaned up thoroughly after completing his work and left everything in good order. I can recommend him without reservation for chimney cleaning services. "
"Sometimes Spouse arrived on time, and went right to work. I had granite countertops installed, and new tile flooring put down. Sometimes Spouse had a tiling crew that did the floors, and shower. They then had another crew do the countertops. Sometimes Spouse was professional and delightful the entire experience. Thank You!"
"Lucio and his crew are amazing. I hired him for roofing, siding, window installation, rock footing/underpinning, new concrete driveway and sidewalks, among other home remodeling. His crews were some of the hardest workers. Always professional, excellent workmanship, and worked with urgency to help me complete my house project timely. Pricing was fair and Lucio was always available for getting to add on services! I will definitely use him as needed in future!"
"Communication started back in November 2011. Actual work was started in July 2012. Partly due to some requirements analyzing was the reason why work did not started until July 2012. Work was deemed completed per contract on my delivery of the last check on October 23 2013. Since completion, the breezeway served as a transversing room with storage on the sides. The main room it leads to is serving in capacity as a small workshop, mainly dealing with wood. The brightness of the lights was very adequate and so is the power delivery from the existing breaker. About a year has passed and I can feel confident I can continue to have the workshop still in service and use. Pictures that are attached showed accumulated additional work of my own accord - window treatments, painting, floor sealing, roof replacement due to hail, but the structure is most definitely sound so far. The lifetime structural warranty solidifies in my mind the soundness of the expanded structure. Jess continued to check on me even after the work has been done. I will soon have his referred HVAC specialist to analyze solutions for bringing in more cool air to the room (cool air was being delivered, but it was not enough for comfortable capacity alongside tool operation - in my opinion) He was very professional in all dealings and despite the slow start (mainly from my follow through), work was done in a relatively timely manner. Communication throughout was solid, accommodating slight changes along the way. Great contractor to work with. Jess knows who to deal with and provide a solution to my overall requirement: A insulated (and for the most part, climate controlled) room that gives expanded dedicated proper space to work in and a new home for all tools that once reside in a not so ideal two car garage.
To note, Accede is based in McKinney and I am in Arlington. I am glad he was able to work with me despite the distance. Year after images are at this link. http://imgur.com/a/oipvW "
"We got several bids for the job. Chavez was the lowest by about 20%. I checked Angie's list to see if his work was of good quality, given the very attractive price he quoted and saw only positivie reviews of his work. He started the job on time and finished early and did every detail to perfection. I was really impressed. He used GAF Timberline shingles, which are the #1 selling shingle in the U.S. They also did a perfect job on cleanup which is not a small matter when old roofing materials need to be carefully collected and removed, including nails. I have had several occasions to be on my roof in the past year and have yet to see a poorly installed shingle or edging. I will certainly be a repeat customer if I need roofing service in the future and can strongly recommend Manual Chavez Roofing. "
The short answer is yes, as hearths need to extend a certain distance out from the fire. This is usually around at least a foot in front but is often more, closer to two feet even. There is another distance to consider, which is the distance beyond the opening of the fireplace. Each municipality will have different code requirements.
Regular cleaning prevents the buildup of creosote and soot, ensuring good airflow and reducing the risks of chimney fires that could compromise safety.
The cost difference between a gas fireplace and a wood-burning fireplace depends on the type of wood-burning fireplace installed. The cost to install a gas fireplace tends to be cheaper than the cost to install a brick wood-burning fireplace. Installing a gas fireplace costs about $3,600 on average, whereas the cost to build a masonry wood-burning fireplace can go up to $30,000. The cost to install a wood-burning fireplace insert or stove can cost from $700 to $6,500, about the same as a gas fireplace on average.
A chimney liner isn’t required for an outdoor fireplace; you don’t technically need one if the masonry chimney uses the proper dimensions and is built to code. However, a chimney liner does serve as a protective coating for the flue. Adding a liner could improve performance, safety, and durability. In short, while not necessary, it wouldn’t hurt.
Cracked panels, worn-out seals, faulty dampers, and firebrick damage often need professional attention.
