"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

"I would still like to hire CP, Hill, Davis or Circle S. but I don't know what to do from here. I would give them a better score If I could see their work on my home. I only marked ( would not hire them ) because there is no in-between. I have been trying to get some one to install a Transfer Switch for my new generator, I called ( Hill ) with no response then Home Advisor gave them my number and still no response. I called ( CP Electric ) with no response then Home Advisor suggested them And gave me their number. So what's the point of me calling them again. I first hire another Electrician (Circle S) he came out and gave me a bid but never showed up to do the job. I then called him three times and he never called back. I then called a fourth electrician (Davis Electric) 2 times and he never called back. This might be considered a small job but I think they should at least call you back and tell you that they can't do it for what ever reason. That's called doing good business. No disrespect to any of these businesses I'm just getting pretty frustrated trying to get something done. This is the same thing that happened when I tried to hire a roofer with Home Advisor , I still have a bad roof jack that is probably leaking water into my rafters causing damage. I have cash money and no one wants it. Is this Texas wide or just a Gilmer Problem. Never had these issue where I used to live. Home Advisor does not work at least not here."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

It prevents electrical surges, protects your home from things like electrical fires, and prevents you from getting shocked if an errant surge runs through your power line. Without grounded wires, your appliances could also get damaged during lightning storms.

Yes, you can get shocked while using a multimeter if:

  • You touch the metal tip while testing a live current.

  • The meter isn’t properly rated for the voltage.

  • The meter picks up on transient voltage that’s above the range you’ve set.

  • The meter has defective parts.

You can prevent shock and personal injury by using a multimeter properly and maintaining your device.

If you’re unsure how to use a multimeter or want help with your project, contact a local electrician to get the job done.

Yes, placing an electrical panel in a bedroom is perfectly acceptable, so long as it meets other space requirements as indicated by OSHA and related agencies. When installed in a bedroom, electricians typically place it in the area directly behind the door swing. This method allows for easy access when conducting electrical panel repairs.

Pellet stoves do require electricity to power their automated features, such as the pellet feeder, fans, and digital controls. However, their electricity consumption is relatively low compared to other household appliances. During a power outage, pellet stoves equipped with battery backup systems or manual ignition options can still operate, though fans and automatic feed mechanisms may not function. Have a backup heating plan in place for these situations, especially if you live in a region prone to severe weather events.

No, it is not safe to use an outlet that sparked. A spark from an outlet could indicate a short circuit, loose or frayed wiring, or other serious damage. Continuing to use an outlet that sparks can increase the risk of electrical shock, electrical fires, and other hazards. It's important to turn off the power to the outlet at the circuit breaker if possible and avoid using the outlet until a licensed electrician has inspected and repaired it.
