"When Sears was the only match on my HVAC project, I knew I was in trouble. Sears did not even bother to contact me so I called the plumbing company C Woods out of Tyler to see if they did HVAC installs. They did! they came out the next day to give me a quote and was able to install the system the following week. I gave them 4 stars for the work quality because they did leave dirt smudges on the walls and scratched the wood near where the old unit had to come from. I have them 4 stars on value for money because while it was probably a fair price, I just thought it was a little pricey. Overall, I would rate them 5*. We've had a good amount of work done at our home - we recently purchased a 42 year old home and my guess is none of the plumbing had ever been updated. So far so good! They are pleasant to deal with and their office staff is top notch!"

"I have known this pro for quite some time. He is honest and diligent in work. He worked out an exceptional unit with a fair price. He also found some flaws that a previous A/C missed when the previous owner had work done before the sale. If you quality service at reasonable price he is the pro you need."

"Josh made a custom tv/media console to fit in a specific place in my home. It needed to fit all my accessories. I asked him to make it â  paint readyâ  so I could paint it myself. He built the perfect console! Thank you! He also extended 2 of my shelves in my pantry so they were deeper. Again, he did a great job!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Turn your system off when you're toasty or when you're out to prevent unnecessary wear. Using the timer on your thermostat so that it switches off when it reaches a certain temperature or turns on just before you get back from work is best. An annual maintenance contract can be helpful to ensure your system receives these important services at regular intervals.

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy. This typically translates to a monthly running cost of $15 to $40, although this can vary depending on external factors.

There are several AC unit problems to troubleshoot, but luckily you can identify them by keeping a close eye on your system. Look out for the following signs that your AC needs repair:

  • Unusual noises during operation

  • AC unit blows warm air

  • AC unit doesn’t come on or turn off with temperature changes

  • Strange odors come through the vents

  • AC unit cycles on and off rapidly

  • Indoor air is more humid or less comfortable than usual

  • AC unit keeps tripping your breaker

  • Fan in the outdoor compressor doesn’t operate when the AC is on

Choosing between a ductless mini-split and central AC depends on your specific needs. Ductless mini-splits are ideal for targeted cooling, providing zoned comfort and energy efficiency. They are perfect for smaller spaces or homes lacking ductwork. In contrast, central AC offers consistent cooling throughout the entire house but requires ductwork and may be less energy-efficient for smaller spaces.

Consider factors like budget, home size, and cooling preferences to make the right choice. Combining both systems, with a ductless mini-split in specific areas, can also be a viable solution for tailored comfort and overall efficiency.

Most units are designed only to cool the house down to 20 degrees less than the temperature outside. This means that if it’s 99 degrees Fahrenheit out and you’re trying to cool your home down to 65 degrees, you’ll notice your AC is struggling.

Lower the blinds on all your windows, turn on your ceiling fans, and keep the thermostat at a consistent temperature to help your AC do its job. Investing in an HVAC maintenance plan also helps because pros will come out to inspect and tune up your unit regularly, keeping it in optimal working condition.
