Small jobs welcome

"Gary's Home Repairs painted several exterior trim projects including window trim, garage doors, front door and patio ceiling. They also finished out a boathouse room interior. The crew was neat, pleasant to work with and meticulous in the preparation and painting. Gary's experience and recommendations on color choices were very helpful. The quote was very fair. Gary completed all work as promised and was very flexible to make minor changes as needed for our satisfaction. I would recommend Gary's to others and very pleased with the work done."

Warranties offered

"It had been 10 years since we moved in and we have not done improvements. My house was tan and white everywhere, it needed refreshing and color. Rose City Paint provided that and more. They throughly patched and primed everything that needed it. They used quality BM paint so it was simple to go pick up swatches and samples to find just what I was looking for. They started the job on time, were there everyday at the same time and worked steadily throughout each room. The team was friendly and easy to communicate with, they vacuumed and cleaned before where needed and after as they progressed. They kept their equipment on the job but contained out of our way. Floors, ceiling fans and furniture that couldn’t be moved out were well covered and recovered as needed. Painting was done well, minimum 2 coats and any bleed through was painted again without complaint. I have a lot of trim, crown molding and fireplace surround as well as bathroom and kitchen cupboards, and it was beautifully done"

"We used Ace Painting several months ago to paint the outside of our home and were very impressed with the quality of their work. They completed the task quickly, but did a very thorough job. They were also very easy to work with. We would definitely use them again, and we highly recommend them."

Wallpaper Removal questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install or hang wallpaper is around $575 per room or project, with typical prices ranging from $200 to $1,500. Costs can be higher for custom or luxury products. Since project size varies, it's often helpful to estimate labor costs per square foot, which generally fall between $1 and $7, with an average of $4 per square foot. The total cost depends on several factors, including the quality and type of wallpaper, the size and type of the room, and whether old wallpaper must be removed first. Opting for less expensive materials like peel-and-stick wallpaper or choosing to do the installation yourself can lower the overall cost. For the most accurate estimate, it is best to have a professional inspect the space and provide a quote.

Yes, you can pay someone to strip wallpaper. Before you hang new wallpaper, you should hire a local wallpaper removal service to prep the surface properly. Wallpaper removal pros cost $0.55 to $1.50 per square foot or $500 to $700 per room. Prices vary by room size and removal technique, as some options are more labor-intensive.

Using a fabric softener solution is a popular and low-cost DIY method for removing wallpaper, but its effectiveness is limited. While it may work on some types of wallpaper, it is unlikely to be successful on vintage styles, and there is no evidence that it is more effective than other removal methods. There are also several potential downsides: the solution can leave behind a residue that may damage your walls or interfere with the adhesion of new wallpaper. Additionally, this method can create a strong, overpowering aroma that takes a long time to dissipate, making it a poor choice for homeowners sensitive to smells.

Once again, contact with moisture is the culprit here, though water-resistant varieties of wallpaper are less likely to become wet and develop mold. Using a high-quality exhaust fan or dehumidifier and leaving the doors or windows cracked after bathing will keep this issue at bay.

While many types of peel-and-stick wallpaper can be used in bathrooms, they may not adhere as well in humid environments as traditional wallpaper. For best results, choose a vinyl or polyester-based wallpaper, as these materials are more durable and water-resistant. Good ventilation is also crucial to reduce humidity from steamy showers. In bathrooms with high moisture and inadequate ventilation, even high-quality peel-and-stick wallpaper is likely to peel over time.
