"While Adam, Dennis?s son, is still learning, Dennis Rampersaud is the stand-up business owner of Dominion Fences & Decks who
will make sure you are happy with his product.  He cares that you are happy with your investment and stands by his work.  He is a military veteran.  The workers were hard working and pleasant.  I plan on asking Dennis to perform other work for me in the future.  His website is www.dominionfencesanddecks.com.
My fence was the standard pine tract home fence installed when I purchased my new home eleven years ago.  The slats were warping and deteriorated.  Some rails were barely attached and cracked completely through.  After reading many reviews on Dominion Fences and Decks, I came to the conclusion that the few bad reviews out of the many positive reviews might be the result of a young inexperienced company representative and/or difficult unrealistic customers.  I decided to  purchase the $99 fence repair Big Deal from Dominion Fences and Decks mainly to get an estimate for repairs and reattach some slats until I could decide what to do.  The son, Adam, came to my house to discuss the Big Deal I had purchased.  Together we surveyed the fence and more problems were found behind the large bushes.  At my request, he gave me two estimates: 1) for repairs and 2) for a completely new fence using my choice of pressure-treated cedar or redwood.  He also showed me colors of fence stain.  I decided to replace the fence rather than repair it.  I copied the estimate and took it to each of my three neighbors (two sides at 90 linear feet and one side at 56 linear feet).  They chose to get their own estimates, but later came back to me agreeing to use Dominion Fences & Decks.  The job took a little longer than the three days originally estimated.  None of the neighbors has complained about the quality of the fence, and one has told me it is beautiful.  To me and my children, the fence looks beautiful and the redwood smell is fabulous.  I never thought a fence was that important aesthetically, but what a beautiful backdrop for my yard.

"Astar did an awesome job! We originally called them to have our flaking bathtub refinished, they advised us that the tile should be refinished as well and the price of $500 to do the whole thing was great. When they finished we explained that we were looking for professionals to repair and repaint or deck, and replace our fence as well. They split the jobs into two separate jobs and gave us a great price on each. We now have a wonderful new fence, a nice deck and a working bathtub."

"Rocky was on time when he came out to survey the work I needed done. He offered suggestions on how to repair the rotted fascia and wooden beam area which led to a cost savings and did not require me to hire a roofer. He quickly provided me with an estimate. He was working on another job at the time, but kept me up to date on his schedule and when he'd be able to start my job. During the conduct of the work, Rocky was timely (he arrived and left at a reasonable hour), courteous, professional, innovative, meticulous, extremely neat (he cleaned up every day before he left), kept us informed on his schedule (i.e., he let us know if he was not coming usually because of rain), and gladly performed the additional tasks we added onto his plate. The overhangs/house extensions are 18-20 feet high, probably 30+ feet long, 10+ feet wide, are constructed of wood, and have six wooden beams that go from the front through the house and to the back. Rocky hand painted both the front and back overhangs with a brush on a ladder. Any cleaned up any paint that dripped onto the patio. The fascia and beam repairs were very close to the edge of the swimming pool and could not be easily reached with the ladder alone. Rocky built a platform that he extended over a portion of the pool, counter weighted it, and placed his ladder on the platform while he was doing the repairs and painting. When he was done with the work, he disassembled the platform and hauled it away. Rocky took down two old ceiling fans that we had over the back patio and hauled them away. He installed two new fans and get them set up and working. One of the fans would not work so he got on the phone with the technical support group for the fan manufacturer to try to see how to fix the issue. We ended up having him take down the one fan that would not work properly(which we returned) and then put up the new replacement fan. Once again, he made sure both fans were working before he moved onto another task, and he hauled away the boxes from both fans. Having had a lot of work done at the house over the past year, I was impressed with Rocky's neatness. He cleaned up every night, consolidating ladders, paint cans, tarps, and other materials into one inconspicuous location before he left. He did not leave any trash laying around the yard, hoses were recoiled, paint drippings were removed, and when he left we didn't find nails or screws or anything else laying on the ground. We have identified other tasks that need to be done both inside and outside the house, and while my husband could do them, his first response was to "Call Rocky. He'll do a better job than me". Thank you Rocky!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Pavers are a great decking option for pools. They’re customizable, come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, textures, materials, and price points, and they’re slip-resistant. Concrete pool decks, on the other hand, are harder to repair and replace if damaged and aren’t as slip-resistant as most paver materials. However, not all pavers are equal in terms of durability, maintenance, and performance. Pavers also have their own cons that may encourage homeowners to opt for stamped concrete instead, such as higher upfront costs.

Yes, you can build a deck over your outdoor HVAC unit, but you need to leave at least 5 feet of vertical clearance above the unit. If you don’t want your deck to be that high off the ground, you could build a floating deck in another part of your yard—again, as long as you leave at least 4 feet of horizontal space between the deck and your AC unit.

Most building codes require that spindles or balusters on deck and stair railings be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard, often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' is designed to prevent small children or pets from slipping through the railing. A good way to visualize this is that a 4-inch sphere should not be able to pass between two spindles. For the same safety reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck floor should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is crucial to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.

With proper installation and maintenance, a vinyl deck can last up to 30 years. Factors like regular cleaning, minimal wear and tear, proper installation, and the use of higher-grade materials can extend its durability. However, extreme weather conditions or neglecting maintenance might shorten its lifespan. Adhering to manufacturer recommendations for care and occasional inspections can significantly prolong a vinyl deck's longevity.

It’s best to prime composite decking before painting. This promotes better paint adhesion, helps create a smooth finish, and can mean the paint job will last longer. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application, allow ample primer drying time before painting (typically 24 to 48 hours), and thoroughly clean the deck boards to promote the best adhesion.
