1.) He called me the same day that I left a message on his number which I found on Angie's List. 2.) He identified himself! (Honestly, that's a first!) 3.) I think I called him on a Wednesday and told him that I wanted a new driveway. He promised to go look at the site by the end of the week and call me back with a quote. Which he did. 4.) He told me he could do the job (which, at this point, was just a driveway) and how he would do it, how much it would cost and said he would send his bid in an email. He told me also that he wouldn't be able to get to the job until after the holidays. I was a little disappointed as the house was vacant and I was expecting tenants at the end of December, so this seemed like the perfect time. But I was swayed by all his good reviews - he's a busy man for good reason and I'm a reasonable person. His materials were of a higher quality than other bids I received, 4" of 4000PSI cement, 2" of base material, 1/2" rebar on 12" centers both ways. His price was just a little higher. But not unreasonably so. So waiting wasn't a deal breaker. His written bid received shortly thereafter. 5.) The week before Christmas, Mr. Barr called to say that he'd had a customer cancel a job which opened up a spot for my job. Would I be interested in proceeding the week after Christmas? Holiday calculations were made hastily - I live 125 miles from SA. Yes! Lets proceed! He had told me that 1/2 the fee would be due on starting and offered to meet me to pick up a check. At that point he did not understand that I did not live in town. Once we cleared up that issue, he was able to take my payment via credit card over the phone. I had a receipt in my in-box within 30 minutes. 6.) Mr. Barr had the prep work underway and completed the week before Christmas. He texted me pics of the progress at the end of every days' work. He met the incoming tenants one day and called me with their request: would I be interested having him install a sidewalk between the driveway to the house?Hmmm. Mr. Barr said,"I can spray paint in the outlines and text you a pic. You could see if you like it." And I did! Great idea. Proceed. He made it with a gentle curve that embraced the front of the house and complimented the original sidewalk from the front door to the street. An elegant and subtle esthetic on the fly so to speak - beyond simply going from point A to point B in a straight line. The additional expense of the sidewalk was worth the new "eye-appeal" of the house. 7.) The day of the pour, Dec. 30, it was bitter cold and drizzling. I pulled up at 10 am, the time Mr. Barr had told me work would begin. The cement truck was already pouring, the crew was slogging and shoveling and directing the cement and Mr. Barr was right in there with them, rubber-booted and working hard. Have I painted a picture here? A man who works hard at all levels of his job, who does what he says he's gonna do, and does it with skill and at reasonable cost and in the time he said it he would do it. And with add-ons! A good humored, kind, articulate and gracious person; Mr. Barr is what used to be known as the salt of the earth. What more could you ask? M and M Construction offered good advice and expertise on how to solve for some complications in the original structure. Framing went quickly and tiling the entire 6' x 7' x 3' shower enclosure took only a day. The finish-out of grouting details and tile-setting was done with maximum care and precision, and the team were very conscientious of cleanup after the project was completed. Would definitely recommend for similar projects. I trusted the salesman in that they were going to repair it and level the house. Although, if youread the contract there is no promise of leveling, so buyer beware. I was quoted $5K for the job, then after the first day they came in and told me that it would need additional reinforcement work that would be another $5K. I could see that it did need additional reinforcement so I paid and engaged. The workers were punctual and diligent, and I could see where they were in fact reinforcing the floor. However, at the end of the week when it came time to level, I was told they could not lift on the sunken area because it was too damaged -- that the house would not bear it. Looking at the contract, I didn't see any recourse, so I was out $10K and had a crooked house with the only difference that the floor was now reinforced underneath, but the problem area was not fixed. Fast forward later, and I've engaged another foundation repair team, who did the following:
* Fixed conditions that they found: including beams which were no longer touching the concrete piers. (note: whether this was due to shoddy workmanship or settling over time I cannot confirm).
* Directly addressed the biggest problem area and lifted it in one day.
* Charged a really fair price and actually addressed the problem area.
All in all I was very very disappointed with this company's work, but had accepted that I was just out of luck in trying to level the house. It wasn't until someone else came in and fixed the issue in one day that I realized that I paid so much money and should have had the house leveled the first time.

Mr. Barr has single-handedly restored my faith in humanity. Well, at least, in contractors. I had a very difficult time finding a contractor who would provide me with the things I expected and wanted. The things anyone who was going to spend a chunk of money on would expect: like a simple bid...

FAQs for concrete driveway service projects in El Cenizo, TX
Concrete can crack from general wear, improper installation, or in response to uneven support from the soil underneath. Small, thin cracks on the surface of aging concrete are usually a result of normal wear and tear, while cracks on new concrete more likely indicate a problem with installation. Larger cracks or uneven steps can signify a much more severe issue. A concrete contractor should be able to diagnose the cause and repair concrete cracks for you.
A concrete driveway lasts between 25 and 30 years, provided you maintain it correctly. Other factors that impact the lifespan of a concrete driveway include your location’s climate and the amount of wear and tear it receives. Heavier vehicles, like RVs and trucks, notoriously create more wear and tear than lighter vehicles and, therefore, might reduce the concrete driveway’s overall lifespan.
With proper maintenance, exterior concrete steps can last 25 to 50 years or more. In most cases, your steps will require some minor repairs over that time frame, including sealing surface cracks and resurfacing to keep them in good condition. Interior concrete steps should last even longer, usually between 50 and 75 years, as they don’t have to stand up to the elements.
The cost to install a concrete driveway is $4 to $15per square foot on average. Your price heavily depends on your desired concrete finish and driveway size.
For a driveway that is 200 square feet, you can expect to pay an average cost of $1,900. For a driveway at double that size (400 square feet), the average price is closer to $3,800. Plain concrete is significantly more cost-effective, averaging $7 per square foot, whereas stained concrete averages around $19 per square foot.
The cost of resurfacing concrete is $6 per square foot on average, though that cost can range from $3 to $9per square foot.
For a driveway that is 200 square feet, you can expect to pay $600 to $1,800, and for a driveway that is 500 square feet, that cost averages $1,500 to $4,500. Resurfacing your driveway will give you the look and feel of a new surface without the hefty cost.
You may want to hire a concrete floor contractor to check out your home’s concrete surfaces or inspect your home’s foundation for minor damages that they can fix while on site. They may be able to fix cracks in your driveway or garage floor the same day they fix your concrete steps, as well. General concrete repair experts usually won’t be able to handle larger jobs, like leveling a sunken foundation, so you’ll need to hire a structural engineer for bigger projects.
