"He was polite and very efficient. He washed the outside windows and window screens and then came inside and cleaned every window inside within 3-1/2 hours and we have thirty-two windows!"

"The representative was late so I called and he had forgotten about the appointment. I showed him the windows and described what I was looking for. He took pictures and said he would talk to his boss. I didn't get a reply so I called the representative's cell phone and left a message. No response. I called the office twice and left a message and still no response. This was over a time period of about a month."

"Called for free estimate and Alex responded. He gave me the options for repair and did not pressure me into a decuson. He let me make the choice. The communication was excellent. A crew of 8 showed up and worked all day completing the project. They were polite and cleaned up after the job was completed. I checked around and found their estimates to be the best with about the same guarantees. This was a very pleasant experience. Now my doors don't gap and close nicely. Thanks Groundworks."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Generally speaking, you should clean your windows and any associated fixtures and treatments every six months. Otherwise, clean them as needed to keep everything running smoothly. If you live in a part of the country with especially hard water, you may have to clean them three or four times per year, and the same goes for areas where insects, pollen, dirt, and other debris can soil your windows and potentially cause issues with the moving parts.

No, it isn’t necessary to have energy-efficient windows. However, if you care about your energy bill and making your windows more energy efficient, fixing any heat, UV, or air transfer issues is an excellent way to lower your bills and keep your house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

Awning windows are just like hopper windows except that they open the opposite way. Instead of opening inward, awning windows open outward with a hinge at the top. This creates a mini-awning within your window frame, which is where the name comes from. Hopper windows, on the other hand, open inward with a hinge at the bottom.

When specifying window sizes, manufacturers use a standard four-digit code system. The first two numbers represent window width, and the last two represent window height. For example, a window with a code of 2917 has dimensions of 2 feet, 9 inches wide by 1 foot, 7 inches high. Windows with even dimensions include zeros as placeholders. For example, a window that is 5 feet wide by 2 feet high would have a code of 5020.

Fiberglass and wood windows last the longest, with lifespans of up to 45 years or more with proper maintenance. Wood windows are more expensive than vinyl and aluminum windows, but they’re 10% to 20% less expensive than fiberglass windows. Repairing and restoring wood windows is also easier than with fiberglass windows, so they’re considered the more durable option overall.
