"The guys were great! Quality and Service were excellent.  I would use them again BUT only if I obtained a written quote BEFORE having do the job.  We walked the work area and received an estimate of $6500 and was told that he could do it for that price if we committed today and they started the next day.  I jumped on this price.  Son extended the parking area and asked for a final price several days before completing the job - he was told "it won't be much more than we quoted".  we both thought maybe $1000 more but not $5,300 more after all we didn't double the length or width.   Once the job was completed, the invoice was handed to me for $12,300.  I almost crapped a brick considering that I had gone to the bank a week before and obtained $7,000 cash.  I take part of the blame for not asking for a schematic with dimensions on it and a price but I also feel that part of the blame is on the business because either his estimation was way off or he intentionally ripped me off.  I usually get more than one quote but couldn't resist this price - won't do that again!

"This company does great work. They transformed a bumpy broken cracked and crooked driveway to a nicely finished smooth and solid driveway. Occasionally it was hard to reach them by phone but I would always get a call back eventually. They went to great lengths on preparation to ensure the job was done to a good standard. The only word of caution is that they depend on another company to supply the asphalt hotmix. I had to wait for about 8 days once Garza Bros was ready to pave because the hotmix supplier was running a different grade of asphalt than what my job required, and I had to wait until the supplier was finished this large order of a different grade of asphalt before he could produce the grade needed for my driveway. But the result was worth the wait. Don't hesitate about hiring them but if timing is critical to your job, be sure and check whether the supplier is going to be able to provide the hotmix in a time frame that suits your needs."

"This job got off to a shaky start when ML subbed the job out to Rocky Mountain Asphalt. The asphalt they poured did not set properly, and vehicles were sinking into the pavement. After a 2-week delay, I finally got ML to come back and re-do the job, and the pavement seems to be adequately firm. The head guy at ML was very anxious to make things right. As are most contractors in Colorado's Front Range, he is short-handed, hence the delay in getting the job corrected."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Asphalt driveways last anywhere from 15 to 30 years, but if you don’t stay on top of repairs, you may find yourself spending extra to replace your driveway before its typical lifespan. Stay on top of repairing cracks and potholes by routinely inspecting your driveway once or twice a year. It’s a good idea to pressure wash your asphalt driveway at least once a year to keep it clean. Apply a sealer every one to five years, based on your climate.

At a depth of two inches, a ton of asphalt covers around 80 to 100 square feet. However, the thicker the asphalt, the less surface area it will cover. That’s why measuring correctly is essential when estimating asphalt needs and costs to ensure you get enough material to cover your entire driveway, patio, or other asphalt surface.

New asphalt goes through two stages: drying and curing. Drying typically takes 24 to 72 hours, after which the surface is solid enough for light use like walking or careful driving. While you may be able to park on it after 72 hours, the surface is still soft and should be treated gently. Full curing is a much longer process, taking anywhere from 30 days to a full year for the asphalt to reach maximum strength. During this extended curing period, the asphalt is susceptible to damage from heavy vehicles, sharp objects, and high temperatures. Factors like weather, the specific asphalt mix, and application thickness all influence drying and curing times. For the most accurate timeline and to ensure the longevity of your new asphalt, it is always best to consult with your installation contractor for their specific recommendations.

Yes, recycled asphalt driveway costs can be substantially lower than new asphalt. With new asphalt costing between $90 and $190 per ton, this option can cost as much as 10 times more than laying down asphalt millings.

An asphalt overlay or top coat costs between $3 and $7 per square foot. For a standard, single-car driveway that’s 10 feet wide and 20 feet long, that’s a total of between $600 and $1,400. For a two-car driveway, you’re looking at a total of between $1,200 and $3,000.
