If you ever have a moisture or water issue after painting over wallpaper, the paper will bubble and damage your wall. Most high-gloss paint will stick to plastic. However, it’s important to prepare your plastic surface to have the best success with painting it. Even the most plastic-adhering paint can struggle to fully adhere to a surface that no one has properly prepared. Ensure that the surface is clean and free of grease or dirt. If your plastic is very slick, you may also want to lightly sand it to increase the chances of complete adhesion.

You can use either paint thinner or mineral spirits to clean paint brushes, but both have distinct advantages. Paint thinners are better solvents, making them a good option if you need to clean your brushes quickly or if you are dealing with dried paint, which mineral spirits can’t remove. On the other hand, mineral spirits have less toxicity, less odor, and lower volatility. It is safer to use indoors and doesn’t evaporate as quickly if you need to leave the brushes to soak.

You don’t have to sand between primer coats. However, if you’d like, you may lightly sand your last coat to ensure a smooth surface before you apply the paint color.
