"Carlos came recommended by our structural engineer. I had met with 2 other contractors but they were not the right ones for the job. Our work included adding support beams in the attic involved opening up walls and ceiling, and to put the room back together installing new crown moldings etc. These guys are the best contractors I have worked with. (I have worked with several including 2 whole house remodel.) Their team always show up on time and are respectful of your space and clean after themselves. Carlos is organized, offers great communication and suggestions. Always keeping you appraised of progress and raise potential red flags. Their work passed City's inspection with no problem whatsoever. Would hire them again when it's time to remodel bathrooms."

"I recently did a complete renovation of the bathroom/dressing room in my condo with GH Construction Services and cannot recommend them highly enough. I had been dreading the process of working with a contractor, but Haim made it all seamless and eased all my concerns. He came out several times in advance to ensure the quote and scope of work were correct, making sure that all needs were covered and making a number of very helpful suggestions. Once the project started he made sure everything was sequenced properly to ensure the work was completed within a very reasonable timeframe. The work itself was top-notch, and Haim kept me informed at all turns about progress and the few minor glitches. I am thrilled with the end product and plan to go to GH Construction again for further home renovation projects."

Customers say: Quality work

"I will definitely hire TK Remodel for our next project. I have a 50 year old home that had a very tiny outdated master bath. I wanted to increase the size and bring the bathroom into the 21st century. When I first requested an estimate for the remodel, Tommy, the owner, was at our house within 2 days to go over what I wanted. He said he could have the job completed in three weeks. Other contractors estimated time to completion was 2 -3 months. Tommy and his team were at the house everyday, except weekends, and completed the job in the 3 week timeframe. The workmanship was excellent and Tommy was communicative. There were no surprises at the end of the project. I now have a beautiful 216 sq ft master bath with all the bells and whistles. I definitely recommend Tommy and his team of professionals."

"This guy is not just a carpenter, he is an artist. I asked him to do chair rails and under frames in our dining room, as well as do a coffered ceiling. I had no idea what all this entailed, but he did. He came and measured, gave me options, and offered guidance. The results are beyond what I hoped for. His team left the space cleaner than they found it, and even helped me re hang the pictures and put the furniture back in place. Excellent choice for fine carpentry work!!!"

"I consider myself very lucky to have found Brian and his crew to convert a portion of our existing garage space to a laundry room. This was my first home remodel project, and I needed someone who was not only a reputable contractor but could help me with design as well.  Brian and his crew have gone above and beyond to make this laundry room a reality for us. He shows up when he says he will and everything he has predicted about the job has been right on the money. He works differently from other contractors (no subs) and you have to trust him quite a bit which might make some people uneasy, but the work WILL be well done and the price WILL be fair.  He prides himself on getting his clients what they want at a decent price.  He even negotiates with plumbers and the like to get you a better price on parts of the job he cannot do himself.

We will be coming in under budget on our project thanks to Brian.  I solicited two other bids, and Brian's estimate was slightly higher, but I felt more confident that the work would be done well and that my project would get the attention it deserved.  He's also super easy to get a hold of by text message which was really nice. If you are looking for a contractor you can TRUST that knows what he's doing, call Brian."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Castillos contractors saved us from a nightmare. After our original contractor disappeared one day without finishing the work and taking our money, castillos contractors stepped in and saved the day. They quality of the work was excellent and Fernando was always available to communicate and answer our questions. I'd absolutely recommend them to anyone undergoing a home renovation."

Small jobs welcome

"We needed a large tree in our front yard removed. Brandy came out to give us an estimate and work with us. We were able to get the job done all in the same week! The team was fast and efficient. Would definitely hire again for future projects."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.

Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.
