At best, you’ll notice a burst pipe quickly, turn off your water supply, and use a wet vacuum to clean up minor flooding. A plumber can repair the pipe, and you won’t be left with a major bill. At worst, severe water damage can collapse floors, ceilings, walls, and foundations, sometimes leading to major repairs and renovations.
Depending on the issue, you have a good shot at fixing a leaking sink yourself. For drain lines, you’ll need a 3-inch PVC pipe for your toilet, a 2-inch PVC pipe for stand-alone showers, and a 1 1/2-inch pipe for a shower/tub combo and the bathroom sink. Each fixture’s drain will run to the 3-inch main drain that runs through the house.
