"I hired Vidal to put together a house full of furniture requiring assembly for my furnished rental house. He did a great job with that but also went above and beyond by noting a noise that my washing machine was making and he fixed it for me in quick order with parts he already had in his vehicle! I was fortunate to be able stumble upon Valdez!"

"I had two large bathrooms that needed to have very bold print wall paper removed or covered up.  I was very nervous about this process as I had heard stories and seen bad examples of attempts to do this.  I sought out consultations and found Steven Macon to be the most thorough and to offer the most comprehensive plan for ensuring full coverage with a combination of stripping loose areas, sealing seams and texturing over bold print prior to primer and paint.  He looked at each room and inspected the condition, texture and print of the wall paper very thoroughly before making his recommendations.  He offered several levels of texturing, providing pictures to assist me in the decision process.  He patiently explained the process he would use in each room which varied based on the condition of the wall paper.  He was thorough, answered all of my questions, gave options in consideration of my budget and put my mind at ease regarding the quality of the end result.  I was uncertain of color scheme and he was very helpful in providing color suggestions that would complement the surrounding areas in the house and still provide some accent.  All of this took place in our initial consultation.  After reviewing the three bids and consultations that I had obtained there was no question he was the best option as no one provided the comprehensive knowledge base that he clearly had of both interior design and technique.  He was able to meet the very specific schedule requirements that I had within a week's time and was willing to work with me in coordinating access to the house.  I found him to be very dependable and respectful of my time.  He always contacted me if he was running even a few minutes behind schedule when meeting me at the house.  Other than utilizing a helper on the initial prep stage, he did all of the work himself.  When the helper was there, Mr. Macon worked right along aside him at all times.  As previously stated, I was not sure of my color selection for one of the bathrooms so he used a color primer to help me get a feel for the look and when I asked to change the final coat color he didn't hesitate and made the change which ended up being perfect.  Several months later I have had ample opportunity to inspect the quality of the work and can say that you would not know there was ever wall paper in either bathroom and the texture and paint coverage/color looks fantastic. I found Steven Macon to be very knowledgeable about all aspects of the interior design process.  He has a degree in interior design and art and brings an understanding of the overall context that I had not experienced with previous painters or in any other consultations.  He is pleasant, professional and very competitive in his pricing.  I would not hesitate to use him again and would recommend him to anyone.  He has the perfect blend of interior design knowledge, technique,  and professionalism."

Doors questions, answered by experts

The L marking on a door closer stands for latch speed and the S marking stands for swing speed. These two letters inform what part of the door closer you may be adjusting. The latch speed being the short final swing the door makes before closing and the swing speed being the long swing of the door when closing.

Burglars are kept away from would-be targets for a number of reasons, but of 400 incarcerated burglars interviewed, the most cited reason they’d avoid a property is if there are people inside, followed by seeing officers nearby. Alarms, lights, and noises inside the house can also deter criminals from approaching.

Start by checking the top or side edge of the door. Look for a certification label or metal tag stamped with details like the fire rating and information on the manufacturer. Even if it’s painted over, the tag should still be visible. Next, look along the edges for slim intumescent strips. They’re designed to swell up and seal gaps when exposed to heat. Finally, check if the door closes itself. Most fire doors have a self-closing mechanism, like an overhead closer or spring hinges. If none of these are obvious, contact a fire safety professional to help verify your door.

You can attach the hinges to either the door or the frame first, depending on your preference. The order will not affect how the door hangs or the ease of installation. However, we recommend starting with the top hinge over the bottom one for stability, as it’s much easier to support the door from below while you install the top hinge. It will also be easier to pull the door outward from the hinges as it hangs from the top than it would be to push the door toward the hinges, as there’s less clearance on the lock side.

Barn doors do not always require a bottom track, especially if a high-quality top track is used to stabilize the door. However, a bottom track is often recommended to ensure the door operates smoothly, prevent it from scratching the floor, and keep it from pushing inward or outward, which could cause damage. A bottom track also keeps the door more secure and properly anchored. In some cases, an interior barn door can hang solely from a top track without a bottom guide. If you do install a bottom track, it should be placed six to eight inches from the floor and be at least twice as wide as the door.
