"I was overcharged on my project to scalp, remove dead shrubs and clean back yard (turf) and patio. They charge $150 per hour , team of 3 workers. Did a great job and the owner was very professional; however, when I received my invoice, it was for 3 hours more than time spent on the job! They charged for the hour they were at lunch and time to go to the landfill to dump which we were not quoted! I spoke with Judd and he did correct the invoice and apologized 3 times. Just disappointed it happened to begin with! I felt like he should have made certain of the time before he invoiced me! Felt like I was taken advantage of!"

"The owner (Jake) came out to my ranch and quoted draining, clearing and expanding an existing 1 Acre pond/tank. He explained the size we could achieve by replacing the existing dam and capturing additional drainage. This was the third bid I received and were all within 10%. However the other two bids would have left me with a cleaned out, mud free 1 acre pond, and Jakes bid left me with a 3.7 acre 14 foot deep lake. After he completed the first existing pond/tank on my ranch I had him move on to another old existing tank/pond for cleaning and expansion. After completing the second 2 acre lake, I had him dig a new lake in a far corner of the ranch that caught run off that we were losing. This one ended up being 1.7 acres and has ended up being a duck magnet. We donâ t live there full time and jake did a great job of sending pictures and calling every other day to give updates. All the spillways were lined with rock that he saved from the excavation. Since all the lakes have been completed, I have had him freshen up and regrade some ranch roads, and clear pasture and fence lines. Would recommend him for any dirt project"

"Jose worked long hours in order to complete the project in a timely manner. He put thin brick on a 20 foot high wall in order to match the existing brick on our fireplace and then lime washed all of the brick. The before, and after pictures are dramatically different, and we are very pleased with the finished product."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

A window flower box should be deep enough that there’s room for a wide selection of plants and the required amount of soil and gravel. Standard flower boxes are 8 inches deep and 8 inches from front to back. Larger is better to increase the variety of plants in the box, but you could run into stability issues as it increases in weight.

The best type of rock for landscaping depends on your specific project and needs, as different rocks are suited for different applications. For covering large areas or creating an affordable driveway, consider gravel, but note that it can wash away in flowing water. For water features, river rocks are a good option. Flagstone and cobblestone are ideal for aesthetically pleasing patios and walkways. If you are building a stone wall, fieldstone or small boulders are up to the task. Large boulders and landscape rocks work well as statement pieces, to fill empty space, or to indicate boundaries, but be mindful that they can overwhelm smaller gardens. The best approach is to first define your landscaping project and then select the rock type that best fits that purpose.

As long as you’re building a greenhouse, consider the overall look of your backyard. Could it benefit from stone walkways or grading? As long as you’re hiring a hardscaping pro to lay the foundation for a greenhouse, you could tackle those other projects to give your whole yard a glow-up at the same time.

As much as you might try to keep a healthy, nutrient-rich lawn, you still may notice signs of St. Augustine decline (SAD)—a viral disease that discolors your grass blades. St. Augustine decline looks like:

  • Discoloration in the leaves (chlorosis)—leaves appear yellow and splotchy

  • Decline in growth

  • Leaves turn black within 3 years

  • Grass appears less vibrant

  • Grass begins to thin

  • Root rot

  • Grass takes longer to recover

Many people have used old tires in gardens as raised beds, planters, tree rings, and DIY decor. However, these uses are not recommended due to the toxicity of many of the chemicals used to manufacture tires. These chemicals can leach into the soil and water as the tire breaks down, creating environmental pollution and health hazards for gardeners and their families.
