"An ice storm on 2/01/23 caused a very large tree to fall on my 12 x 20 storage building. Gary and his crew restored multiple damages to a like new condition. His professional crew started early and worked without stopping except for lunch. I would have no hesitation in giving their work a 10+. I definitely will use them again if or when needed. To top it off, they did the work at a fair price, exactly as quoted and in a timely manner. To say the very least, Gary and his crew were certainly not afraid of hard work! Thanks, guys!"

"I hired Owen's to repair several areas in my drywall, including existing cracks and cracks that were previously repaired poorly by a handyman. When I first discussed the project with Chris, I was expecting the drywall to be repaired and textured so that the cracked areas would be barely noticeable, realizing that matching the existing texture exactly was not possible. Also, he would touch up the cracks once repaired with paint I provided. When Cody arrived (on-time), he seemed unsure about what exactly needed to be done. Also, some of the equipment he needed was in their other work truck, so he had to leave later to get that equipment. He, with Chris' help, did get the cracks repaired and they did look better than before they started. Also, he did make a special trip for an additional $100 to buy matching paint for the dining room. However, no texturing was done at all so the previously cracked areas are now just flat stretches of dry wall. One of the repaired areas has a noticeable finger swipe. One cracked area in the dining room and two cracked areas in the adjoining laundry room were missed and still need repaired. Finally, Cody used paint thinner (my wife was very bothered by the odor) to clean up drywall mud spatter on our dining room tile floor. However, he missed several spots there and in our kitchen that we still need to clean up ourselves. They seemed rushed since they had to be done that day, so maybe that was why the texturing was skipped."

"We are extremely pleased with the work done by C&S. Eddie is a true craftsman, and it shows! The carport and porch they built for us exceeded our expectations in quality and price. All I had to do was show Eddie a printout of the carport we liked, and he made it happen. He and Sheila walked us through the customizations we wanted and even suggested a few more! We were so pleased that we hired them to build two decks on the back of our home. I know who to call if I ever need more construction work on my home. Highly recommend!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The primary parts of a house that need framing during construction are floors, exterior walls, interior walls, and the roof. The framing in these areas provides the skeleton for adding other materials over the top. With walls, for example, contractors can hang drywall over the interior walls and siding over the outside of the exterior walls. Proper framing ensures a sturdy house that is built to last.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.

Yes, most services include necessary frame modifications for proper door fitting. Confirm with your provider.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.
