"I recently did a complete renovation of the bathroom/dressing room in my condo with GH Construction Services and cannot recommend them highly enough. I had been dreading the process of working with a contractor, but Haim made it all seamless and eased all my concerns. He came out several times in advance to ensure the quote and scope of work were correct, making sure that all needs were covered and making a number of very helpful suggestions. Once the project started he made sure everything was sequenced properly to ensure the work was completed within a very reasonable timeframe. The work itself was top-notch, and Haim kept me informed at all turns about progress and the few minor glitches. I am thrilled with the end product and plan to go to GH Construction again for further home renovation projects."

"This guy is not just a carpenter, he is an artist. I asked him to do chair rails and under frames in our dining room, as well as do a coffered ceiling. I had no idea what all this entailed, but he did. He came and measured, gave me options, and offered guidance. The results are beyond what I hoped for. His team left the space cleaner than they found it, and even helped me re hang the pictures and put the furniture back in place. Excellent choice for fine carpentry work!!!"

Customers say: Quality work

"I had met with a few contractors for the job but chose Hodges Construction after meeting with the owner Roy Hodges. He and his employees were prompt, extremely thorough, and reliable. It was a rather large job as a new home build in which I had many questions throughout the process but Mr. Hodges always took the time to walk me through the process and help me put my mind at ease. His employees were courteous when my husband and I would show up to see the updated progress and also very helpful. It really was refreshing to have a contractor that you can trust and sees a job completed from start to finish in a timely manner all while showing patience for us as it was our first custom built home."

"Eric and his team have done a fantastic job and repairing our home after a house fire last year. He has been communicative through the whole process, sent progress photos, and was always there to answer any questions we may have had. Our home now looks a lot better than when we first bought it!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

No rules state how much of a load-bearing wall can be removed. Rather, you need to adequately support any area that is removed. Support should always be added to as much wall area is being removed. Failing to support the area properly will result in structural damage.

To calculate the number of linear feet of baseboard you’ll need, measure the length of each wall of the room you’re installing them in as close to the floor as possible, rounding up to the next full linear foot. If it’s your first DIY molding job, having a few extra feet on hand for miscuts is a good idea.

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.

Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.
