Swinburn Construction has been in business since 2000. This business was a concrete and brick business that my grandfather started sometime in the 1930's. This has been a family business all along. I learned everything I know from my grandfather and my father. I am the third generation to keep this business going. We build custom homes from the ground up including all phases. We can do all the land clearing, dirt work, concrete slab, framing, roofing, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, all the way to complete finish out. The easiest way to remove stucco is to use a circular saw with a diamond blade to cut small squares out, pry them off, and then cut the metal lath behind it with tin snips. It’s possible to do everything with a hammer and a crowbar, but it will take significantly longer and will wear you out more quickly. Plus, you’ll have a higher risk of damaging windows, hidden siding, and sheathing if you go the less precise route.

In many areas, a permit is required to remove stucco siding, especially if structural repairs or new siding installation are involved. Check with your local building department for specific requirements and associated permit fees before starting your project. Permit fees range from $100 to $500.

You can apply stucco to wood by wrapping it with grade D waterproof paper, installing trim accessories such as metal lath, control joints, weep screeds, casing beads, and expansion joints, and applying the stucco in three layers. You’ll need a scratch coat, brown coat, and finish coat, all applied with a trowel and screeded with a darby or straight edge. Each should cure for two days before you apply the next one.

Installing stucco over brick can add longevity and durability to your siding while protecting it from deterioration due to exposure to the elements.
