It’s fair to be concerned about handling pool lights or wiring in a pool filled with water. If your pool takes longer than one or two days to fill, you might be dealing with low water pressure. Using a water pressure gauge on your outdoor tap, you can check your water pressure. A reading of 40 psi or below is considered low. A leak, a nearby water shutoff, or several other reasons could cause this. 

If the water pressure isn’t a problem, you could have a low flow rate from clogs, corroded pipes, or other plumbing issues. It’s best to call in a local plumber to get to the root of the issue.

Any number between 7.2 and 7.8 is an ideal pH for swimming pools or 80 to 120 ppm. Your pool testing kit should be able to measure both of these numbers. If your pool’s pH is below this range, the water is too acidic and can cause scaling and damage to pool equipment. If the water’s pH is above this range, it can decrease the effectiveness of necessary chemicals, like chlorine.

Building an in-ground pool can take anywhere from two to three months, and weather can absolutely throw a wrench in your timeline. Generally, you can expect to spend two to six weeks obtaining permits, a week excavating and preparing the land, and about a month or two building the actual pool (including the plumbing and electrical work). Keep in mind that concrete takes around 30 days to cure, but it won’t take nearly as long to install a fiberglass insert or vinyl liner.
