"Went very well came at 6 o'clock in the morning finished in one day did a wonderful job. Replaced the entire ceiling and one bathroom and redid a wall in another that had water damage on the roof leak also replaced rotted studs in wall and remove tub.

"I needed a contractor quickly for a kitchen tile setting project. I reached out on a Sunday to a number of contractors. Paul was the only one to respond - and very quickly. Not only that, he said he could do the job that week - on a Wednesday ... I needed it done that fast after another contractor bailed on me 3 times! Paul got it done. His workers (tile setters) were great, finished in one day, and cleaned up afterwards. They were amazing. Pricing was great too. Although texturing walls may not seem like a lengthy project, you’ll need to set aside between one and five days to complete it properly. The exact amount will depend on the scope of your project—one room will take less than a whole-house project. That will give you enough time for tasks that are time-consuming in and of themselves, like taping wall edges, priming the walls and letting them dry fully, and actually applying the texture and top or base paint coats. 

The timeline varies from a few hours to two days, depending on room size, texture complexity, and removal difficulty.

Knockdown hides imperfections better than orange peel due to its thicker, more varied pattern. The valleys and peaks make flaws less visible under lighting. However, note that knockdown walls will collect more dust and dirt, so be prepared to wipe them away more frequently than you would with orange peel.

Most handy homeowners can tackle removing texture from unpainted walls. Removing texture from painted walls is a bit trickier. Paint acts as a sealant, so you can’t soften the texture with water. Instead, you’ll have to add a layer of drywall compound known as a skim coat. This process is messy and takes some practice.

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. As long as there is no flaking or other wear, a new coat of paint might be just the thing to refresh the old ceiling. The best way to paint a popcorn ceiling is to use either a paint sprayer or a thick roller to cover the popcorn texture fully. (Do not forget to dust it off beforehand!)

“Note that if you eventually want to remove the popcorn ceiling, a painted ceiling is a labor-intensive job to remove and will cost more,” says Bob Tschudi. “Once painted, the process of removing the popcorn ceiling requires physical scraping as opposed to a spray-and-scrape approach. It’s very labor-intensive, and thus more costly.”
