"I reached out to multiple contractors to evaluate and propose a solution for a complex structural problem related to my garage. Specifically, a main structural beam on my covered patio was not properly secured to the structure of the garage. Poor workmanship by a previous contractor had led to leaks in the roof above the beam resulting in rot of the wood framing underneath which eventually led to the failure of the connection between the beam and the framing members in the garage. The beam dropped several inches and damaged the siding and trim on the garage. I called Kephart Handyman after reading their reviews on Angie's List. Barry promptly replied to my inquiry and came to my home to evaluate the problem. After taking some pictures he came back to me quickly with a proposal. There was some uncertainty on what would actually need to be done depending on what his team found when they removed some of the damaged wood. In the end, Barry's team removed and replaced all of the damaged structural framing, roof decking and shingles and added a new support column for the beam. They wrapped the beam to match others on our patio. The quality of their workmanship was very good and the team cleaned up as they did their work. In the end, the job took five days instead of the quoted three days and involved unplanned removal and repair of drywall inside the garage. Barry stood by his estimate and did not charge extra for the added time it took to make the repairs. Overall, I was very satisfied with their work and their ability to find a solution to this complex repair. "Jose and his team are exceptional. We hired him for 3 small projects (installing a screen door, installing a barn door in the nursery and replacing water damaged ceiling and adding beams). The quality and thoughtfulness of the work far exceeded our expectations. How can you exceed expectations installing a screen door, you ask? He noticed we had cats and made sure to order an upgraded pet-safe door. All materials were included in his estimate and he consistently ordered extremely high quality materials and finishes. He was always exactly punctual and communication was very clear. We would trust Jose with every aspect of our house and immediately requested estimates for additional work after he finished this project. The title "Handyman" doesn't do Jose justice - he's a craftsman."

"I really wanted to provide a good review to these guys if only for the repeated effort they put in trying to get it right. Once the owner started to blame me and my house for the struggles they had, I decided I needed to write an honest review. So I have a house that was built around 2000 and it has rolled on texture and stamped ceiling texture that is applied using spackling compound. This is very common in this area and prior painters have had no problem matching it. In this case the crew admitted to me they were not professional painters, they did not to keep the area neat (drips on carpet, stain on pool cool deck (photo), stain on garage wall (photo), muddy boot prints on stair carpeting (see photo), etc,), they could not create a straight line in corners where two paint colors merge (see white/blue paint photo), and did not know how to texture. The wall texture had to be done over three times - that is literal. I showed them how to do it. They eventually got that fairly well figured out. The ceiling was another story - the area that had a sheet rock repair was retextured 5 times over three visits (see white ceiling / gray wall paint photos). At first it was totally terrible and I had to tell them what ceiling texture stamping tool to buy from Home Depot (pretty much the main one they sell). One painter told me he watched utube to try and figure out how to use that tool but did not have any experience with texture. He was not satisfied with his own work, to his credit. Finally the owner came and redid it. I was dismayed to find how rough it looks. I have hired someone to re do it. I can not recommend this company. If you do hire them, don't pay up front like I did."

This is an update to our July 13, 2014 review of services provided, at which time Wally had designed and provided all required architectural drawings, 3-D views and plot plans required by our community HOA for approval .

After a significant wait for final response from the HOA, the original covered patio plan for the  placement and size and design we wanted, were denied. That brought major disappointment, delays and the need to go back to the drawing board. So back to Wally we went for help.

Wally redesigned the structure to accommodate the space available and again prepared all the drawings, documents, plot plan and 3-D views required by the HOA, in a very timely manner. He provided this excellent service at NO cost. How grateful we are to Wally for his timely and generous assistance. The HOA has approved the revised project plan. A great service and result. "Mark Gonzalez did a wonderful job on our daughter’s house. We called him and he came out and gave us a quote. Scheduling was an issue and we chose to wait for him to be available. We are glad we did. He did what he agreed to do and then some. An example is in order. The task was to repair sheetrock in several areas throughout the house. Those areas were enumerated and discussed. During the course of the job, he saw other areas that needed repair and fixed those too. He did not make a big deal of it. He just did it. He is also an artist. For example, we were supposed to provide the paint. He requested that he be allowed to get the paint which was great for us. He took samples and went to Sherwin Williams. When he got back with the matched paint, he was not satisfied (looked good to us). He took the paint back and had it redone. To us, it looked good the first time and perfect the second time. His rates are extremely reasonable and does a superb job. Scheduling may be an issue so we suggest to allow sufficient time for him to get to your project. You will be really glad you did."

"Great, Alex is super professional guy, he also came by the house to make sure there were no problems. He got onto the roof after it was done and checked to make sure it was installed correctly. He check the front and backyard with a magnetic to make sure all the nails were picked up from the yard. He did a great job."
