"We had several trees that needed to be removed and the stumps ground up … K6 Services did a great job! We are very pleased by the quality of work done, and on top of it - they are really nice people as well. We recommend them highly … and will have them back again in the future for more work."

"This company is the greatest. They installed a complete new septic system for me while I was gone. They treated my wife extremely well, they worked well into the night by tractor light just to get the job completed. If anyone need a septic service these are the people to have do the work. The price was fair and not surprises. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM."

Customers say: True professional

"Kris did a fantastic job clearing and leveling my lot as well as (at my request) constructing a wall, which was a little out his comfort zone at first but in the end the results were amazing. I would 100% hire him again. He was professional and had great communication throughout the duration of the project. His pricing was competitive and I can tell he takes pride in his work. Before we started the project Kris told me he wont leave the site until I am satisfied and he delivered on that promise."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Whether you grind or dig up and remove your tree stump depends on your landscaping goals. Using a stump grinder leaves the root system in place for it to decompose over time, whereas digging up the tree stump removes the roots and the stump. Overall, stump grinding is a far simpler process since you won’t need to deal with the roots. Stump removal will make your yard look like a demolition site, but you’ll have an easier time replanting in the same place as your former tree.

You should dig 3 to 6 inches deep for plastic edging. Dig as wide as you need to fit your plastic edging into it—2 inches is usually sufficient.

You do not have to dig footers for a deck as long as it meets local code and holds up to weather in your area. If you live somewhere that experiences high winds and earthquakes, you may need to dig for your deck posts. Deck blocks, post anchors with base plates, and helical pile systems are the three no-dig deck post options you can choose from if local code permits.

Yes, an excavation company is the best option for land grading and yard leveling. General landscapers might be able to tackle these projects, but an excavation company will do a better job because they’re used to operating the necessary heavy machinery. Landscapers might opt to do the work manually, which takes much longer and could cost you more in labor fees. Finally, excavation companies will understand local regulations and know when you need permits to legalize the work, while a landscaper might not.

The digging depth will depend on the size of the trencher you use. Even smaller units can dig up to 4 feet deep, which is plenty for a DIY job. However, much larger trenchers can reach a depth of 18 feet and are better used by a team of pro contractors, not a single DIYer. As with all home improvement projects, use the right tool for the job and proceed with caution.
