While they can be closer, the maximum distance between fence posts for residential fences is 8 feet. This ensures the panels are adequately supported by the fence posts. This is usually dictated by the width of the panel, which is typically between 5 and 8 feet. While narrower panels will require more posts, they’ll be lighter and easier to work with than wider panels that are the same height.

While it’s possible to remove a fence post with a truck and requires little physical effort, we don’t recommend this method. You can potentially hurt others or yourself or damage your property or vehicle attempting to take a fence post out with a truck. Instead, use a farm jack or a pole puller to remove the post.

If 20% or more of your fence is damaged, pros will often tell you that it’s a better use of your money to replace the fence entirely. Severe rotting and insect damage always call for a replacement. Chicken wire fences can cost as little as $2 per linear foot. Chicken wire is obviously more affordable, but if privacy is important to you, vinyl is the best option.
