"We spoke with Raymond yesterday about fixing an exterior door for us. Raymond and Corey came out today and went above and beyond for us by fixing a few more minor issues while they were here. I would recommend them to anyone who needs repairs and will use them for any future door or window needs!"

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"We hired JG Construction to remodel our Master Bedroom, Master Bathroom, and walk in closet complete with built-in dressers, clothes racks, and storage space. An interior wall was moved 5ft in order to create more space for the shower expansion and tot rebuild complete with all new plumbing, tile, texture, paint and trim along with custom built cabinets on each side of a his and her vanity. The Master Bedroom was taken completely down to the studs and redone with new insulation, sheet rock, texture, paint, trim with all new doors being hung to finish. They did an amazing job and I would highly recommend them to anyone and will use again for future projects!"

"My husband and I were off during the holidays and we His & Hers Mulit-Service. Veronica and Mike came the same day to meet us, understand our expectations/needs and view our home. They were very timely and gave us a quote later that day. When we accepted, they further accommodated us by coming the next day at noon, the time that worked best for us. We were pleasantly surprised and extremely happy with the job they performed. We have used others in the past and I have had to "re-do" or finish after they left because it was not satisfactory. I did NOT have to do that with His & Her service. They cleaned as Veronica said they would, "from the top to the bottom". When my husband and I inspected after they left, we were so surprised to see even the areas we felt would logically be missed, were clean! Doors, both sides were clean, baseboards, light fixtures all through out the house were spotless (and we have a large number of glass globe light fixtures). Even pictures and mirrors looked brand new. Our large master shower shined from ceiling to the floor. The wooden floors looked perfect as did the carpets and tile. Veronica, Mike and the crew the brought were very friendly, neat and professional. I will be using them again. They are a pleasure to work with and take pride in the job done and their business. She told me she would clean our home like it was her own, and that she did!"

"The head guy noted that one of the screens was damaged and said they would order and install the screen later. Said to myself: "I'll never see these guys again". But 2 weeks later the screen was installed. Excellent work all around."

Doors questions, answered by experts

You have several options when choosing the best lumber for your door jamb. Pine is the most common material due to its resistance to swelling. Fir is strong and durable. You could also go with birch or alder. Any wood with a tight grain will work for this project.

WD-40 can temporarily silence a squeaky door hinge, but it is not recommended as a long-term solution. While it is effective at breaking down rust and grime, it contains very little lubricant and evaporates quickly. Using WD-40 can also attract dirt and dust to the hinges, which may cause more wear and tear over time. For a more lasting fix, after cleaning the hinge, apply a true lubricant. Better options include silicone spray, white lithium grease, metal or plastic lubricants, or oil-based products like petroleum jelly.

Yes, prehung doors include a door jamb. Prehung doors are sold as a single piece with the door frame already constructed, including the hinges. The only part missing is the trim, which you add after fastening the door. They are more expensive than slab doors but are quicker and easier to install. Prehung doors come in an array of sizes, so there’s likely an option to fit any doorway you need.

You can attach the hinges to either the door or the frame first, depending on your preference. The order will not affect how the door hangs or the ease of installation. However, we recommend starting with the top hinge over the bottom one for stability, as it’s much easier to support the door from below while you install the top hinge. It will also be easier to pull the door outward from the hinges as it hangs from the top than it would be to push the door toward the hinges, as there’s less clearance on the lock side.

There are certainly perks to hiring a general contractor, but we recommend a closet professional. The reason is that their pricing may make more sense for your project. General contractors tend to search out bigger projects, and because of this, will attach a premium to smaller amounts of work. A closet pro may also have access to a wider range of materials than general contractors (and may be able to negotiate better discounts).
