"Can't really say anything about their work because they have not done anything yet. The customer service representative was extremely nice an knowledgeable about what we wanted. Am waiting on a estimate to see if we want them to do the drawings which there is a cost ,but is understandable with all the work that goes into making blueprints. Will definitely spread the word of this company. Thanks DLC Designs an Home Advisor for their suggestion. Thomas Wilking"

Architects questions, answered by experts

Hiring a contractor with knowledge about historic renovations and reviewing their previous work is important. You can find a historic home renovation contractor by calling your local historic preservation office, historical society, or any local historic museums nearby. The staff may have suggestions for specialized contractors who have worked for them. You can also ask them about historic home restorations that you have seen and liked in your area to get recommendations for pros.

You likely need to hire an architect for your new house design and build, unless you have the design skills and experience with building regulations and standards needed to get your plans approved. If you are able to meet the design requirements, you can hire a draftsperson to create the blueprints for the builders to follow.

Typically, architects do not build homes in a hands-on sense of doing the actual framing, roofing, or other building. Architects usually do not have the training and experience to build the homes they design. An architect would need to know how to do the specific trades required to build a house, which is possible but not a common practice. A general contractor or homebuilder typically oversees the actual details of building the house that the architect designs.

A cathedral ceiling is a type of vaulted ceiling with a symmetrical peak that follows the pitch of the roof. They typically peak at a height of 12 to 20 feet, although they can go higher. This dramatic height and steep peak mimic the architecture of many historic cathedrals, which is where they got their name.

Villa exterior features often include large windows, arched doorways, patios, terraces, greenery, and gardens. Common exterior colors for villas are whites and off-whites, soft browns, and clay tones.
